Food
It took me three minutes to microwave dinner and make a drink. It went from 2-1 to 5-2 in that time span.
A Goal
Let's beat Gaslamp Ball in at least one gamethread this series.

It beats watching this game.

Don't You
Why on Earth would they play Don't You Forget About Me after a single?
Oh Boy
It's Hendrickson time!
JP
That Juan Pierre is a sparkplug, I'll tell you wut.
Re
It's so baffling seeing Pierre's helmet come off and seeing a hat underneath.
So Confusing
We have five stolen bases, yet we're losing. What's the deal with that?
Sometimes
I wish I could hate Mark Hendrickson to death.
Luis Gonzalez
Gonzalez struck out only 23 times prior to tonight. He's now up to 26.
roster
Since nitpicking roster moves seems less painful than paying attention to the game, I have some questions.  Why are there three third basemen on the active roster?  Four if you count Olmedo, who makes up in girth what he lacks in actual ability to play third.

Does this mean that Abreu has gone from solid second base prospect to third baseman of the future to utility infielder in the span of a month?  I am so confused.

Also, isn't Anderson really a second baseman, in spite of his weird stint last year?

Re
He became an outfielder since he's pretty bad at the whole second base thing.

I'm really confused about the whole roster situation. If I had to guess, it's that Ned can't bring himself to send down a guy hitting .270, unless it's James Loney.

abreu
eh, i don't really care if he gets sent back down.

but i will still root for him to take over ramon's spot and make him our next DFA victim.

Re
I disagree, Abreu is far from a finished product, and he needs to play everyday to develop the necessary skills to be a useful player.
i agree
he needs to play everyday, im just saying i'd choose him to remain on the team over ramon.

in other news, joe beimel has finally cut his hair.

Re
And thus removing the only thing I could possibly like about him.
also
for some reason when abreu first came up ned proclaimed him to be the most talented guy in vegas...not loney, not kemp, not even poor delwyn young. no, abreu. somehow, i feel loney and kemp are more talented, but their batting averages were lower in vegas at the time.
You think. . .
Loney's out of the woods yet? Ned sure loves sending him down. Tough call which he likes more, screwing with Loney, or trading backup catchers. He sure can trade him some backup catchers.
nomar
Defensive spectrum my foot.
Re
One great play, I'm convinced.
Sample Size Shmample Shmize
Web gems/game is the only defensive metric that matters.  After tonight Nomar should be universally regarded as the best defensive third baseman of the year.
Re
I'll have to start tracking that.
Whoo!
I believe some people call this a rally.
Bleg
I'm getting really tired of Kevin Towers mishmash of relievers becoming dominant.
Royce
Me thinks taking this guy over Joe Blanton was a mistake.
Okay
Gaslamp Ball has 230 more comments on us, we can do this.
Nomar
Well, I don't know about you guys, but I think Nomar is back.
Nomar
He's a wiz with the glove and an RBI machine.
Re
MVP. I think so.
Rally Time!
!
Need Drink Ideas
Have large variety of alcohol available. Will take suggestions for drink.
Miracles Can Happen
!
Yes!
Yet another steak for Kemp!
I was afraid
Kemp was going to strike out four times...thankfully he just grounded out.
Re
I can't believe the organization frets so much his strikeouts when he was leading the organization in average a week ago.
Promo
"Loaded with marquee names!" Let's keep focusing on Nomar.
well we are
a veritable all-star team circa 2002. nomar! kent! gonzo! dlowe! schmidt! (oh wait...)
Wow!
I've heard of them! Let's all go to Dodger Stadium to watch! I don't think it's a huge coincidence that I've yet to go to a game this year.
even my poor mother
who i took to a game and knows nothing about baseball, noted that there aren't any stars on this dodger squad. it was astounding that she knew this.
Commando Eagle
Vinny totally blew the monster truck promo. It's "You'll pay for the whole seat! But you'll only need the edge!"
Mike
In a few months, Cameron will get a new contract for less money than pierre got, and then I will sigh
Re
If you're using "made less than Pierre, but is better" as a bench mark, the next four offseasons are going to be very depressing.
Kuo
not throwing as hard as he was last year, that could be part of his problem. Is he maybe still hurt?
Re
It wouldn't shock me if he was.
The Hoff
They should just play TNT when Hoffman comes out, that should throw him off a little.
Good Start
Good start.
alright 2 run jack here russ
Re
Dang. Martin needs to be a little more magical.
or not...
left up to kent. ugh.
Kent
Kent needs to change his song from Defy You. Three years is enough, and I don't think anyone remembers that.
Kent!
Kent! Anyway, I don't think anyone remembers the song Defy You. Hell, it's back from when I was really into The Offspring, and that was five plus years ago.
Crud
Well, that's just about the most depressing way to end that game.
Drinks
I should get hammered during the game more often. I've been more into this game than I have been for a while.
dang
Does this mean I can go back to hating Gonzo?
Re
I never stopped. Well, not hate, but not actively enjoy either.
yeah, but
It's harder to be down on him when he's carrying the offence.
Re
Fortunately, my hate can last ages. I hate Joe Beimel just as much as the day he came up.
Wow
That really is fortunate.
Third Guy
The guy I don't recognize on Dodgers post game is questioning starting Kemp.

That deserves a paddlin'.

Who?
Ryan ONeil's son?
Re
You know, not Steve Lyons or Kevin Kennedy.
Patrick O'Neill, Ryan O'Neill's son.
Final Stolen Base Counts
Dodgers -5
Padres - 0

Dodgers...lose?

bronze lining
At least we beat Gaslamp, right?
Naw
They kicked our collective ass, 322 to 59. Still, best game thread in a while. Amazing what I can do when I have the time to sit down and watch most of the game, and I'm hammered.
Wow
Kevin Kennedy recognizes the defense is bad, albeit he's looking at the wrong part of the field.
outfield defense and infield defense
which is worse? id say kent is the main culprit in the infield, but pierre and gonzo together is just crazy bad.
Kennedy
I like him, he's insightful, I almost wish he was our manager but then he'd probably be a huge veteran's manager also...so, no.
Encouraging
Grady - We can't win games stealing bases.
McClain
Why is there Die Hard in my post game show?
Helio
It's amazing how much ramming a car into a helicopter will make me want to see a movie.
Damn It!
The only night I'm not here because I went to bed (10:40 Eastern start time here).  We could've had this going all night.
