Andruw Jones DWL Update

Five games into the DWL season for Andruw Jones we have some good and bad news. The good news is that Andruw is sporting a .407 OBP. The bad news is that is is all based on walks while striking out eight times in only twenty-two plate appearances. It is still early and he's on break for Christmas but this is the DWL so if he can't hit these guys, who can he hit? Rafy Furcal is playing on the same team but that buddy system didn't pan out very well for us in 2008.

So I'm just curious what the group think is on the future of Andruw Jones. Granted we all saw some downturn in his skills from 2006 to 2007 but no one figured he'd be as bad as he was in 2008.  His shockingly bad season was voted on by you as the 2nd biggest surprise of 2008.

I went with first option

But really I want to go with:

He is shot and does not deserve a roster spot, but Dodgers cannot afford to to eat much of his salary so he goes on IR at some point.

re:

I expected bounce back to 2007 to be the leader in the poll but it has yet to get a vote. I myself went with Comeback Player of the Year.

Shot...

…but stays on the roster because Ned and Frank have to save face. Like with Mark Sweeney.

re:

Mark Sweeney didn’t stay on the roster to save face. He cost us nothing but Denker and his salary was negligible. He stayed on the roster all year because throughout his career he had been one of the most productive pinch hitters in history and Torre felt more comfortable with him then anyone else.

Right...

…but a lower salary is even more reason to cut a guy. To cut a guy like Jones, they would have to just eat like 20 million dollars. To cut a guy like Sweeney, you eat like, what? 500k?

He stayed on the roster because he was Torre’s whipping boy or had naked pictures of Torre’s wife. I never really care how good a guy was 10 years ago. I mean, it was pretty clear he was atrocious by mid-season. But hey, he’s old, a veteran, and crappy, so the Dodgers love him.

I remember...

Being so excited when we signed him. While visiting San Diego I went to a couple games at Petco, both were against the Braves and both games I saw him hit 2 first pitch home runs, and have multiple other hits as well, I was so disappointed when the Andruw Jones that was on our team was not even a shadow of that player I had seen in San Diego. I’m hoping he perks up and gets going otherwise he’ll continue to be a Dodger that I don’t care about.

Bye bye Andruw

Bye bye Mr. Jones wherever you wind up.

I’ve developed a serious Manny crush. In the playoffs – one behind his head and he doesn’t move. One in front of his face and he doesn’t move.
Manny just stays in the box like the ghost of Ted Williams.
Manny – Mr. Ultimo.

I think he's done

but he’ll stay on the roster anyways unless we trade him. Too much bad PR to release the highest paid CF’er in baseball. I would be shocked if he is at all productive.
