At the end of the winter meeting wouldn't this be a nice way to celebrate CC signing a contract with us? With Casey Blake signing his deal, the True Blue tagline needed to be updated. For now I've gone with "CC or Bust". Once we fail to sign him we will have to take a look at the roster and see how clever we can be. Suggestions are welcome.
Per LA Times:
11:32 AM, December 9, 2008LAS VEGAS -- The Dodgers and Angels have expressed varying degrees of interest in free-agent left-hander Randy Johnson, agent Alan Nero said today, but it will probably be several weeks before the 6-foot-10, 45-year-old left-hander signs.
"Ned [Colletti] keeps saying they have to clear the deck," Nero said, referring to the Dodgers general manager. "My discussions with the Angels have been more peripheral. At this point, there are five teams that want CC Sabathia. What are the other four going to do?"

Manny still seeking six year deal?
=================================================================
Dodgers sign Mark Lorreta according to Ken Gurnick of MLB.COM. The terms being reported are one year at $1.4 Million.
Loretta is just about the perfect utility player. Good enough to start for a short stint, but not good enough to be a regular at his age. Comes cheap and can be an effective pinch hitter against LHP, while also providing support to DeWitt if he struggles against LHP. His career splits against LHP is quite impressive for an infielder and he doesn't seem to be fading as his 2008 splits were even better as he posted a plus 900 OPS.

10:50AM
Jayson Stark says it is offical, we now have Blake
So our infield is starting to shape up. As of right now it looks to be
1st - Loney, 2nd - DeWitt/Loretta, SS - ???, 3rd - Blake
So two holes have been filled. Still looking for a SS or a commitment to Hu/DeJesus , a starting pitcher, decision on Saito, what to do with Manny, and the Pierre contract who has asked to be traded.

This means the last of Nomar in a Dodger uniform and while his time here was punctuated with injuries he had some big walk offs for us.
Lots of work still to be done but this is a good baby step for 2009.
Other News:
Tom Verducci reports that Furcal is now No 1 priority
Diamond Leung reports that the Dodgers have signed Hector Luna
Tony Jackson:
Colletti said the Dodgers had some interest in free-agent closer Trevor Hoffman, but only if the club doesn't offer a contract to Takashi Saito, who battled elbow problems this season and whose health remains a question. Saito, who will turn 39 in February, made $2 million last season and is eligible for arbitration. But the Dodgers are highly unlikely to go to a hearing with him if he doesn't agree to terms.

TC,
I suppose it’s about time to remove Joe Crede’s name from the TrueBlue Tagline, eh?
Thanks for the updates!

Only Andrew can do that. I know he’s still alive because while he doesn’t post on his own website he does post on Dodger Thoughts from time to time.

Maybe it is time for him to promote you!
I hate the Blake deal, seems like typical Ned Coletti move but fuck if it isn’t stupid.

Re:
I like the Blake deal. Given the 3rd base market we had few choices. Either sign Blake at 3rd and keep DeWitt at 2nd, or give 3rd to DeWitt and sign a platoon combo for 2nd. Just don’t have enough faith in the health of Abreu or the readiness of DeJesus to go into 2009 without some holes filled externally. Blake is better then Crede and by mid 2009 will probably become a great bench player who can fill in at all the corners of the baseball diamond while giving us a solid pinch hitter. A bit pricey for a part time player in 2010/2011 but that is the price you pay for some stability in 2009.

What Is This?!
You ruined my only contribution to this website! Thanks for your ‘suggestion’ Dodgerblueballs. Aargh! I created that tagline!
Sarcasm, folks!
Kind of.

In addition to a screen name which references the greatest EVER joint collaboration by Kurt Russell and Sylvester Stalone...
You also have Bill Cosby licking an ice cream cone. No one can take that away from you my friend. Ever.

Here's my First Suggestion
True Blue LA: Where Our Prospects Pay for the Billiard Room in the New McCourt Mansion" referencing that they essentially sold Carlos Santana, then bought 2 (TWO!!) new houses.

re:
True Blue LA: Where Our Prospects Pay for Andruw Jone’s buffet
That would go against the ban Andrew has on Andruw Jones fat jokes.
Phil Gurnee - December 9, 2008
Andrew said no Andruw fat jokes unless they were good ones. And DBB’s fat joke below is fantastic.

How about...
TrueBlue LA.com: Andruw Jones ate our tagline
