Interesting Bullpen, the Phillies have
Lidge 1.5 Buyout option of a 12.5 contract see ya
Madson – Free Agent
Jose Contreras only 2.5 Million, was great before arm trouble this summer.
Antonio Bastardo seemed to do a decent job for the minimum.
Broxton just might be a great fit for them, helping out Jose and Antonio.
Phil Gurnee - October 12, 2011
Prediction:
1. They sign Broxton
2. Broxton is OK but not perfect and blows the occasional lead
3. The Phillies disappoint, mostly for reasons that do not involve Broxton
4. Everybody blames Broxton
Humma Kavula - October 12, 2011
I will only sign off on this if the Dodgers sign Free Agent Matt Stairs to be our pinch hitter and he hits a decisive home run off of Broxton after he walked AJ Ellis on four pitches in the NLCS
Phil Gurnee - October 12, 2011
That AJ Ellis is an OPS machine.

I bought into all the hype surrounding him prior to him being drafted and thought he’d end up being real good. I was just a little off….
He did look great at the combine though so he will fit right in on the Raiders!

And he’s already peaked.
Phil Gurnee - October 12, 2011
Todd Walker got kinda hosed because people focused on what he couldn’t do (catch the ball) too much.

Always interesting when they move a 3rd baseman to 2nd base, usually they are moved to 1st base and you find out they couldn’t even hit if they had been a AA.
Phil Gurnee - October 12, 2011
I mostly just confused him with Warren Morris.
Nolij - October 12, 2011
He took Broxton deep

David Young - October 12, 2011
Both Young and Durham were picked in the 5th round
Young in 1997 out of Cal and Durham in 1990 out of high school. (Bret Boone was selected two picks after Durham).

Humma Kavula - October 12, 2011
Kids parents at our school pay 40 – 75 bucks for elementary tutoring.

Holy crap.

Phil Gurnee - October 12, 2011

Phil Gurnee - October 12, 2011

So the latest ESPN the Magazine is the “Body Issue” featuring a nude Blake Griffin on the cover and nude photos of many other professional and olympic athletes (both male and female, as well as some couples).
I thought I knew what being in shape was. That’s a whole new level of fitness right there.

Yup, we are all dough boys compared to them. Have to say the cover I got scared me and I went out with a female body builder once.

Nah, I’m no hunter
My best scuba story is:
My friend had a place off of Whidbey Island in Washington, you walk right from his back yard into Puget Sound, cold clear water, nothing there but crabs, so we spent our time collecting crabs for dinner that night. We got out around noon and put all the crabs into a waterbasket, then we both took a nap dreaming of crab dinner. While we were napping both our wifes took all the crabs and put them back into Sound.

It could happen anywhere - in the nice community of Seal Beach
SEAL BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Southern California authorities say nine people have been shot at a hair salon in the city of Seal Beach.
Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Marc Stone tells KCAL-TV that the victims’ conditions are undetermined but some are being taken to a hospital.
The shooting occurred Wednesday afternoon in a cluster of small businesses on Pacific Coast Highway in the community southeast of Los Angeles.

More info from LA Times - Unfortunately 6 believed killed
Orange County authorities were responding to a shooting at a salon in Seal Beach on Wednesday, with reports of seven potential victims. A source familiar with the investigation said six people were believed dead.
The shooting occurred at Salon Meritage, a beauty salon in the 500 block of Pacific Coast Highway, workers in the shopping center said.
A suspect is in custody, according to a Seal Beach police official. The entire department is responding to the scene.

That’s where a lot of the most interesting stuff happened. Obv the Beatles were kind of a big deal, but it went into Layla, and financing Life of Brian (which I didn’t know about), Traveling Wilburys, the near-fatal attack at his house and his final few years. Compelling to say the least.

Joe Medwick (858)

Until 1966 this was probably true, but Triple Crown, Leading team to World Championship over the dreaded pitching of Koufax / Drysdale, he was the man from then on. Hell Aaron was under the radar until one day someone said, fuck he’s going to break the home run record.

More fun with English
So … “Detroit” is pronounced with an “oy” sound and a “t” at the end. Yet, “Benoit” is pronounced with it’s proper French pronunciation … “ben-wa”.
Can I just say that Benoit throwing balls is pretty funny?

They absolutely should give it a shot. It is precisely the kind of thing teams should do. If there’s any chance at all that he could succeed as a middle infielder, what do they have to lose? Would moving him really have all that much effect on the development of his bat? And even if it does, is Castellanos’s bat so special that it has to be protected?
That said, it probably won’t work, but that doesn’t really matter. They should try it.
Humma Kavula - October 12, 2011
There is a reason why people don’t go left on the defensive spectrum.
Tripon - October 12, 2011
That is why it won’t work. We all know why it won’t work.
But catchers aren’t supposed to be breaking strikeout records in the majors two years after throwing their first pitch, if you know what I mean. If you think Castellanos isn’t gonna be much anyway, why not try him at 2B? What do they have to lose?
Humma Kavula - October 12, 2011
Didn't Lopes
move from OF to IF? Not saying that means anything, just that someone has done it before.

Lopes did play some CF in the majors and I liked the way he played it: shallow, with confidence that he can go back on balls over his head and run ’em down.
