It's time for Dodger Baseball
meercatjohn - October 3, 2011
I hope we win!
we need it
keithc13 - October 3, 2011
Top of the First
Matt Kemp leads off, looks comfortable in the lead off spot.
Strasburgh showing no signs of rust hits 98 on the black. Kemp takes his base doing his best not to rub
Carroll takes the count 3 – 2, full count pitch, Kemp goes, Carroll dribbles it to 1st base Morse throws
to Stras for the out, however Kemp keeps going, headed for 3rd, Strasburgh was not paying any attention after taking the throw from Morse and Kemp slides in head first as Strasburgh doesn’t even attempt a throw.
Kemp seems agitated about being hit and is doing his best to annoy the future flameout. Kemp goes on the first pitch, Dee reaches across the plate but misses it the squeeze, Kemp with a full winter of rest in front of him plows into
Ramos and knocks him into the 4th dimension, with the ball headed toward the seats. 1 – 0 Dodgers.
Pudge Rodriquez now catching.
Dee Gordon strikes out waving meakly at 98 at the knees
Juan Rivera strikes out on three pitches. Stras was clearly angry.
meercatjohn - October 3, 2011
I love that Kemp just powered in a run on base running
Ivdown - October 3, 2011
Tougher than a robot made of nails!
EMDarrow - October 3, 2011
LOL
David Young - October 3, 2011
pleased you noticed
meercatjohn - October 3, 2011
Dee hitting 3rd.
Nolij - October 3, 2011
Reason for this is obvious
Dee makes Miles look like a reasonable choice as a #3 hitter, from a power perspective.
EMDarrow - October 3, 2011
Kemp’s getting his 40th today!!!!! YES!!!
WGiles24 - October 3, 2011
HGT
shaqfor3 - October 3, 2011
Two things
1. Kemp better get his 40th
2. He better get it in some obscure and totally weird way.
Humma Kavula - October 3, 2011
is Canseco’s head in play?
Hollywood Joe - October 3, 2011
Alex Cora ends up in CF due to crazy circumstances
and leaps up to catch a home run bound ball hit by Kemp to straightaway center field, catches the ball but loses his glove.
Ivdown - October 3, 2011
The Blue Dahlia runs on to the field distracting Werth and Ankiel, who run into each other while pursuing a Kemp gapper to RCF. Hilarity ensues.
David Young - October 3, 2011
Bottom of the First
Ian Desmond leads off poking a single over Loney’s head, he’s going for two, Sands picks up the wet baseball and fires it to Dee who applies the tag on Desmond. One out
Bernadina lifts a ball down the line in LF, Juan Rivera is not going to get but Dee Gordon is snatching the ball going full horizontal just as the ball was about to land fair.
Werth takes strike one, ball one, strike two, ball two, ball three, then drives it deep to CF, Kemp is on his horse and pulls it down in dead center with his back to the plate.
Eveland tells Velez he got his guys.
meercatjohn - October 3, 2011
This game is going by fast.
fbihop - October 3, 2011
Dodgers radio deal with KLAC 570 runs through 2014, and says DodgerTalk will run for “at least one hour after every game.”
They will also have a one-hour DodgerTalk from the start of spring training through opening day Monday through Saturday at 7pm.
No word yet on who will be on those shows.
Eric Stephen - October 3, 2011
I am going to guess
it will be the producer for the Petros and Money show, David Vassegh
bhsportsguy - October 3, 2011
I can recall the Dodgers being on
640 KFI, 790 KABC, 1150 Fox Sports, 980 KFWB and now 570 KLAC. The Dodgers were on KMPC when they first arrived to Los Angeles but moved to KFI in 1960-61.
bhsportsguy - October 3, 2011
i am waiting for the call to host this
delias man - October 3, 2011
BST
I once got in a huge argument with a Brit about whether or not Britain had an equivalent of Daylight Savings Time.
There was a press release going out saying X would happen at Y o’clock GMT. It was an international release, covering many time zones, so it had to be right. I asked if that was right. We got in a huge argument. “Greenwich is in London,” he said. I said, “Yes, I know Greenwich is in London. I have been to the Greenwich Maritime Museum and taken the cheesy picture of myself with one foot in the east and one foot in the west. I am not asking you where Greenwich is. I am asking if Britain is on Greenwich Mean Time in the summer.”
His response was not kind, which I guess I deserved.
Humma Kavula - October 3, 2011
Bloody Yanks
not knowing about time and all it’s facets.
Ivdown - October 3, 2011
2nd Inning
Jim Loney laces a stand up double into the right center gap
Sands strikes out on four pitches
AJ Ellis walks
Miles hits into a double Play
meercatjohn - October 3, 2011
A normal sized person would have gotten a hit.
Humma Kavula - October 3, 2011
You might have broken in half by the sheer velocity of the fastball whizzing by you?
Ivdown - October 3, 2011
I know I got short somehow, but I think I would have remembered that.
Humma Kavula - October 3, 2011
Bottom of 2nd
Eovaldi now in to face Zimmerman, Espinosa, Morse
Zimmerman watchs Eovaldi throw four straight 99 MPH for balls and takes his base
Eovaldi settles down and walks Espinosa on six pitches
Morse launches the gimme strike deep into the bleachers putting to rest the idea that Eovaldi can minimize home runs.
AJ Ellis visits the mound, smacks him on ass, and heads back.
Eovaldi now feeling invigorated by the smack on his ass dials his 99 upto 100 and strikes out Pudge, Ankiel, and the pinchitter, LaRoche.
Score 3 – 1 after two
meercatjohn - October 3, 2011
Eovaldi’s first strikeouts as a reliever!
Eric Stephen - October 3, 2011
I still think
meercatjohn’s radio drama will be more entertaining than this game.
bhsportsguy - October 3, 2011
Kemp hasn't homered yet?! DFA him!
{taps foot expectantly}
Oh well, maybe he’ll have a flair for the dramatic… ;-)
underdog - October 3, 2011
Eric recycles!
David Young - October 3, 2011
Meanwhile, OT, and harsh...
underdog - October 3, 2011
Youth culture killed Kenny Williams’ dog.
Humma Kavula - October 3, 2011
I hope someone
is scoring this game at home.
David Young - October 3, 2011
3rd Inning
Velez pinch hits himself for Eovaldi when he sees the Nationals have replaced Strassburgh with Atahualpa Severino.
Velez bunts toward Morse and beats it out as Morse and Severino were caught in no mans land by the perfect bunt.
VELEZ GETS A HIT
Matt Kemp walks up as the tying run. Severino nervously looks at Kemp and decides not to look over at Velez hoping he will steal second so he can walk Kemp on purpose. Velez is having no part of it, and doesn’t take off.
Ball one
Ball two
Ball three
Zimmerman visits the mound and chastises the kid for being afraid to throw strikes.
Strike one, down the middle.
Strike two, down the middle
The kid is feeling confident and lets er fly
meercatjohn - October 3, 2011
SHE GONE
meercatjohn - October 3, 2011
two milestones in one inning
WHAT ARE THE ODDS?!?!?!
Tommy Blackjack - October 3, 2011
You couldn’t script it.
Humma Kavula - October 3, 2011
#cantpredictbball
shaqfor3 - October 3, 2011
40/40!!!
WGiles24 - October 3, 2011
Atahualpa Severino
sounds like the perfect name for a Mayan.
shaqfor3 - October 3, 2011
Baseball’s answer to Cuahtemoc Blanco.
Nolij - October 3, 2011
He’s hoping for a big 2012.
Little Blue Bicycle - October 3, 2011
He’s playing like there’s no tomorrow!
David Young - October 3, 2011
The Dodgers wanted to sign him but he said no way to a backloaded deal.
Little Blue Bicycle - October 3, 2011
rec
shaqfor3 - October 3, 2011
Gameday has the ump squeezing Severino.
David Young - October 3, 2011
That's why they call him
The →→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→ uh…
David Young - October 3, 2011
hitng
nolander - October 3, 2011
After the game
The official scorer takes pity on Severio, figuring anyone who actually gives up a hit to Velez might become suicidal, and calls the play an error, because really, there must’ve been an error someplace if Velez ended up on first, right?
EMDarrow - October 3, 2011
what official score
it never happened
Hollywood Joe - October 3, 2011
homerun matty?
??
bornblue86 - October 3, 2011
I read that as Manny
Josie Becker - October 3, 2011
ives has a live chat right now
delias man - October 3, 2011
Hey Ives, you kept hitting me with your elbow. Is it true you can’t control the flail of your arms?
Josie Becker - October 3, 2011
too much MLS for me
but just enough USMNT to keep me interested.
delias man - October 3, 2011
The 2011 MLB playoff teams in infographic form.
fbihop - October 3, 2011
I was about to be all pissy and say you linked it wrong, but I see flipflopflyball did it FOR Grantland. Is Grantland something I’m supposed to hate? I can’t keep track.
Josie Becker - October 3, 2011
If Grantland just stuck to sports, it would be awesome. The NFL preview pieces are good (Bill Barnwell from Football Outsiders) and they have some good baseball writing (I like Jonah Keri and the other guy’s name that I can’t spell).
But the whole “Hollywood Prospectus” crap is stupid.
fbihop - October 3, 2011
yeah, pretty much
Hollywood Joe - October 3, 2011
and BS is still writing for ESPN, this is just his side project that directly competes with them and is a conflict of interest?
Josie Becker - October 3, 2011
Having multiple ways to laugh at Bill Simmons can’t be a bad thing.
regfairfield - October 3, 2011
Grantland is an ESPN-owned site.
fbihop - October 3, 2011
ah, there it is. Those bastards
Josie Becker - October 3, 2011
LOL
at the last two categories.
David Young - October 3, 2011
best one
shaqfor3 - October 3, 2011
surprised that the Cardinals have done almost as well in the draft as the Rays. But the best fans in baseball deserve a homegrown team
Josie Becker - October 3, 2011
The last criterion is the best.
Nolij - October 3, 2011
@TheRealMattKemp has more twitter followers (~55,000) than any of the playoff teams except Yankees, Phillies and Rangers, and he’s close to Texas at ~61,000.
David Young - October 3, 2011
Matt Kemp hit that so far he broke open the skies and the deluge has started. Tarp on the field
meercatjohn - October 3, 2011
crap
hope the game doesn’t get rained out
Tommy Blackjack - October 3, 2011
I hope Velez gets Vince Coleman-ed
Nolij - October 3, 2011
I predict now that he finishes behind Teddy Roosevelt too.
Little Blue Bicycle - October 3, 2011
Does Supernintendo Chalmers need to mentor him?
Nolij - October 3, 2011
as in throwing firecrackers at kids?
delias man - October 3, 2011
That's not rain
that’s the Big Blue Dodger in the Sky weeping tears of joy that he created Matt Kemp.
David Young - October 3, 2011
is this game really going on?
its not on any of the sports sites…?
bornblue86 - October 3, 2011
No, there’s a rain delay. Didn’t you read?
Nolij - October 3, 2011
Orson Welles is guest color commentator.
WGiles24 - October 3, 2011
my god, such simple things bring such joy
Hollywood Joe - October 3, 2011
Don't let the jackals fool you
It’s a re imagining :)
Ivdown - October 3, 2011
Let me know when the game is back on.
Alex41592 - October 3, 2011
Vin Scully has a direct line to the man upstairs, doesn’t he? Can’t he do something about the rain?
Humma Kavula - October 3, 2011
HJ Proposed a situation a while back that was absolutely perfect. Ninth inning, and Eugenio Velez comes in to pinch hit and gets his first hit of the season in order to extend teh inning just long enough to give Kemp an extra at bat. Kemp hits #40. THis must happen.
court168627 - October 3, 2011
too late.
Humma Kavula - October 3, 2011
don't care.
im choosing my own fantasy to live in.
court168627 - October 3, 2011
flattered you chose mine…i guess?
Hollywood Joe - October 3, 2011
aren’t we all?
David Young - October 3, 2011
no.
court168627 - October 3, 2011
I like to believe otherwise.
fbihop - October 3, 2011
Can’t wait for when Vic the Brick hosts Dodgertalk.
Alex41592 - October 3, 2011
Been there done that
back in the 1150 days. It was as painful as you’d expect it to be.
EMDarrow - October 3, 2011
Kind of OT
I never watched the “Outer Limits” because as a kid, that opening sequence freaked me out. Also, I just enjoyed the Twilight Zone more and never got into Outer Limits or Night Gallery.
bhsportsguy - October 3, 2011
Night Gallery sacred by littleness something fierce, I would not watch it
Twilight Zone and Outer Limits also scared me, but I loved watching them
Hollywood Joe - October 3, 2011
ALSO
has this been linked yet? Hank Aaron voting is up now.
