Up to the minute batting average
through 3 AB each for Braun/Reyes today…
Braun .33333
Reyes .32952
Kemp .32534
Eric Stephen - September 25, 2011
This is wrong by the way
I had one fewer AB for Braun. Braun is at .33273 (185 for 556)

kinbote - September 25, 2011
Sort of
Outside of the strike years of 1982 and 1987, the Lions also had Rich Karlis (1990) and Dave Rayner (2010) when their guys got hurt.

Ivdown - September 25, 2011

kinbote - September 25, 2011
My Pizza Hut came to my door as strikeout number 244 was being recorded
Eric Stephen - September 25, 2011
Dominoes artisan today, just not that good, and Lions win.
Grimjack - September 25, 2011
Perfect timing, haha
If I wasn’t lazy/not wanting to miss 1 inning I would have gone and picked it up, but screw that, Kershaw is amazing to watch.
Ivdown - September 25, 2011
except for the fact that its, ya know, pizza hut.
JLS23 - September 25, 2011
No doubt
A willing sacrifice for laziness
Eric Stephen - September 25, 2011
I don't understand the Pizza Hut hate
It’s awesome pizza.

Ivdown - September 25, 2011
you can't have had good pizza and say that
nolander - September 25, 2011
If you're talking about restaurant pizza
Then we’re just not on the same page at all. Pizza places anywhere near me: Dominoes, Pizza Hut, Costco (dont deliver), Guidos. I’m not getting pizza from anywhere else
Ivdown - September 25, 2011
nope
not restaurant pizza
nolander - September 25, 2011
i'd choose Dominoes
over Pizza Hut. if I had to choose
Tommy Blackjack - September 25, 2011
You also don't drink Dr Pepper
So I’m not sure we should take your opinion with all that much stock :P
Ivdown - September 25, 2011

Tommy Blackjack - September 25, 2011
Domino’s new crust is shit. I won’t eat there anymore.
drulenarendes - September 25, 2011
That's funny
I like it better now
Ivdown - September 25, 2011
As far as chain pizza places go, Pizza Hut is the best.
court168627 - September 25, 2011
you spelled worst wrong
nolander - September 25, 2011
i did qualify it to chain pizza places…i would take almost any hole-in-the-wall mom and pop pizza over pizza hut. but given the choice between pizza hut and dominos its pizza hut every time.
court168627 - September 25, 2011
and like i said
its worse then dominoes or papa johns or round table or…
nolander - September 25, 2011
Papa Johns is shit. Dominoes is worse, though getting better. Round Table is nowhere near good
Ivdown - September 25, 2011
maybe papa johns is close, ive never had round table. where im from almost no one ever eats pizza from a chain place. i grew up in a small village with less than 4000 people and there were about 10 different local pizza places, all of them great.
court168627 - September 25, 2011
Thank you, haha
Ivdown - September 25, 2011

Bob Nightengale and I
having a spirited debate on Twitter regarding Braun/Kemp MVP debate. He’s trying to cite Braun’s triple crown numbers as well as to why he’s the MVP.
drulenarendes - September 25, 2011
you mean the numbers
Kemp is better in two out of three?
Tommy Blackjack - September 25, 2011
He seems to think that Braun had a legitimate triple crown case, and cited how clutch he’s been. I had to point out Kemp’s 3 walk-off homers and the fact he’s putting up these numbers with no protection in a big pitcher’s park.
I’m waiting for his silly reply.

Tommy Blackjack - September 25, 2011

Ivdown - September 25, 2011
Kemp
puts tremendous backspin on the ball. That’s what gives his fly balls such great carry.
albany10 - September 25, 2011
If he's hitting balls this far at Petco
He’s gonna hit 10 in Arizona this week.

Eric Stephen - September 25, 2011
Is there a way to see a list of whose voting for what award?
court168627 - September 25, 2011
It doesn’t really get released, especially ahead of time. Unless a writer with a vote mentions it.
Eric Stephen - September 25, 2011
Ok
from what I’ve seen via twitter, he seems to favor Kemp for MVP.

Gonna be tough for Kemp to win the batting title (though a lot can happen in three days). He’s still the MVP regardless though.
drulenarendes - September 25, 2011
Because he’s aiming for the 40 home runs and HR leader, he’s playing maybe more like a typical power hitter, all fly balls,’and getting struck out a lot instead of placing sharp singles on line drives.

court168627 - September 25, 2011
Last year Pujols and Votto had extremely similar seasons
The difference between them, really, was that Votto was on a playoff team and Pujols wasn’t. Pujols got I believe 1 first place vote, the rest went to Votto. Kemp is slightly better overall (though Kemp is a CF, Braun is a LF instead of 2 1B), but I’m afraid it will be the same story, playoff team against non-playoff team.
Ivdown - September 25, 2011
i think votto honestly had better numbers, completely regardless of playoff situations.
court168627 - September 25, 2011
Also, voters for some reason like to find reasons to NOT vote for Pujols.
fbihop - September 25, 2011
I somewhat agree
Ivdown - September 25, 2011
as evidenced by his 3 MVPs and his top 10 in MVP every season of his career?

as evidenced by his only 3 MVPs (assuming he feels Pujols should have won more than 3).
cldpc - September 25, 2011
bingo my friend
Ivdown - September 25, 2011
Barry Bonds
Eric Stephen - September 25, 2011
I know I wont win any arguments with Pujols>Bonds back then
But I most certainly have no problem arguing Pujols>Howard in 06
Ivdown - September 25, 2011
look at the years hes lost out. 4 of 7 were to Bonds and his freakish steroid numbers. one to votto, one to howard when he hit 58 HR, and one to Rollins and 7 other players between them. dont really think hes been treated that unfairly. and this is coming from someone who wishes pujols breaks every record possible.
court168627 - September 25, 2011
I’m not agreeing or disagreeing with anyone. Simple trying to explain his argument.
cldpc - September 25, 2011
Simply*
cldpc - September 25, 2011
I never said unfairly. I just think even with 3 MVPs, he's likely deserved at least 1 more.
Ivdown - September 25, 2011
you’re probably right. he probably deserved it when howard won it. but i dont think it’s a travesty to give someone the mvp when they hit 58 HR with a BA .300+
court168627 - September 25, 2011
If you care at all about Advanced statistics
in 2006 Pujols had a .331/.431/.671 line with an 8.5 WAR, Howard had .313/.425/.659 line with 6.2 WAR.
Pujols had 9 less home runs and slugged more than .010 points better.
Ivdown - September 25, 2011
i do
and their OPS were nearly identical. the huge discrepancy in teh WAR comes from defense, which the current defensive metrics are not very good. obviously pujols is a much better fielder, but im not trying to say that he didnt deserve the mvp. on the contrary. im just saying that the voters werent looking for a reason not to vote for him.
court168627 - September 25, 2011
Pujols has better by .018 points in BA, .006 points in OBP, and .012 points in slugging
.448 wOBA to .436 wOBA. It’s not a giant margin, but then taking fielding into it, clearly Pujols was the better choice. Last season it was a similar situation with Pujols and Votto, and as opposed to 06 where Howard got the award on a non playoff team, pujols didn’t get the same treatment with basically the same argument. The only real difference is Pujols league leading home runs were lower as were Votto’s still high amount.
Ivdown - September 25, 2011
As evidenced by finishing behind Howard in 2006
and not getting more than 1 first place vote last year when the seasons were incredibly close.
I don’t think you realize just how historic Albert Pujols is.
Ivdown - September 25, 2011
I'm guessing the secret number 1 reason was
“he’s won it before”
shaqfor3 - September 25, 2011
That's likely a factor
I don’t know how I feel about that. It’s nice to give the award to a new player, but if a player is elite enough to win the award, that shouldn’t really factor into the thought process.

6-5 A’s Bottom 9.

Nice.
cldpc - September 25, 2011
KJ will K these fools
shaqfor3 - September 25, 2011
Amazing season, Clayton
You deserve more praise than you’ve received, if that’s even possible. Let’s hope Kenley can save your bacon once again here.
Ivdown - September 25, 2011
Stop worrying about what people deserve and take a look around and see what praise they are getting.
Eric Stephen - September 25, 2011
I hope I find this in a fortune cookie some day
Ivdown - September 25, 2011
MLB ERA title. If this run on 3B scores, Cliff Lee needs 6.2 scoreless to tie Kershaw, 7 to pass; otherwise Lee needs 10.2 scoreless
Eric Stephen - September 25, 2011
Kenley knows what he needs to do
Ivdown - September 25, 2011
good thing the
Braves need to win right?
Dodgerblue8188 - September 25, 2011
Any earned run by Lee and Kershaw has it locked up?
Alex41592 - September 25, 2011
Yes
Eric Stephen - September 25, 2011
Excellent, thanks.
Alex41592 - September 25, 2011
Besides, Lee is likely on a shortened pitch count anyway, though I think he could talk his way into a chance at an ERA title if the opportunity is there.
Eric Stephen - September 25, 2011
Unless he goes 18+ innings or so.
And if he does, Charlie Manuel will officially not want to win the WS.
cldpc - September 25, 2011
Kenley Jansen is here to say
fuck you padres.
court168627 - September 25, 2011

Dodgerblue8188 - September 25, 2011
We know it. We’re just waiting for everyone else to figure it out.
court168627 - September 25, 2011

He still might have another hit after the game.
drulenarendes - September 25, 2011
When the official scorer takes a look at the error?
cldpc - September 25, 2011
Yes
drulenarendes - September 25, 2011

latenite - September 25, 2011
the one thing that nobody has mentioned
is ian kennedy throwing in relief over the next few days to get some work in and somehow getting a win
Brandon Lennox - September 25, 2011
Is he doing that? Or are you saying that might be a possibility?
Ivdown - September 25, 2011
no fucking way
a playoff team does that with their staff ace when theyve already clinched.
court168627 - September 25, 2011
it would be to get work in to stay sharp for the playoffs
not saying it will happen, but it’s possible
Brandon Lennox - September 25, 2011
im pretty sure the way the schedule works is that he’s set to start with exactly 4 or 5 days rest to begin the playoffs.
court168627 - September 25, 2011
He would be on 6 full days of rest before Game 1 on Saturday.
Alex41592 - September 25, 2011
not to be a pessimist
but that could also ruin the triple crown
Brandon Lennox - September 25, 2011
Arizona would have to beat the Dodgers though, so nope.
Eric Stephen - September 25, 2011
Nothing stopping Kershaw from pitching in relief too if that happens.
berkowit28 - September 25, 2011 via mobile
if he pitches....
KeMVP will take care of it for Clay
MammothDodger - September 25, 2011
Kennedy pitched yesterday
the playoffs start Friday. No way this happens.
drulenarendes - September 25, 2011
NLDS starts Saturday. I could see him pitch an inning on Tuesday or Wednesday. Doubtful though.
Alex41592 - September 25, 2011
exactly
i agree definitely doubtful, but possible
Brandon Lennox - September 25, 2011
if gibby does that then mattingly has to respond by putting kenley in the same inning to guarantee that the dbacks dont take the lead with kennedy as pitcher of record.
court168627 - September 25, 2011
Gibby might still be bitter about the Parra incident
so who knows
shaqfor3 - September 25, 2011
Only if passing the Brewers is still possible.
