The last remaining battle of the Dodgers ongoing bankruptcy proceedings, between Frank McCourt and Fox, is now over. Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times tweeted that the Dodgers have agreed to honor their existing contract with Fox (which runs through 2013) in exchange for Fox ending their pending litigation against the team.
That's one less roadblock to the upcoming sale. Now, as Shaikin noted, the team can "get on with the business of selling the team." Now we wait for McCourt and his crew to pick a bidder for the team, which will be sold by April 30.
To quote Roy Hobbs, "pick a winner."

so know that this is settled
what’s the likelyhood the team re-ups with Fox?
Tommy Blackjack - January 10, 2012
know?
now*
Tommy Blackjack - January 10, 2012
slim to not happening, Time Warner is serious about getting their RSN together, and baseball is key to them having enough live programming
Josie Becker - January 10, 2012
I wouldn't say that
Fox would lose an RSN slot (Prime Ticket or FSN West) if they lose the Dodgers so they could very well pony up some cash plus they are the only entity that can pay them money before the end of 2012.
bhsportsguy - January 10, 2012
I would prefer the Dodgers be the big fish on PrimeTicket than be the sidekick on the new TW Lakers channel… but I guess it all depends on who the new owners are and who offers the most money.
Lincoln Kupchak - January 10, 2012
i don't think they'd be the sidekick
they’d be the summer attraction.
more a partnership
Tommy Blackjack - January 10, 2012
oh it’s definitely going to be a battle, I just think summer is going to be looooong if it’s just the Galaxy holding up the tent at TW
Josie Becker - January 10, 2012
Only two players, one with lots to gain, the other with lots to lose, to say one has a slim to not happening chance seems ………..well………… very Josie like.
Phil Gurnee - January 10, 2012
One thing that Fox could do
is offer a stake of Prime Ticket to the new owner of the Dodgers plus up the rights fees. Also offer more room for original Dodger programming and maybe even build a studio on site.
Time Warner still needs to sell the Laker channel to distributors.
bhsportsguy - January 10, 2012

Ryan Madson to the Reds, per Heyman

“Someone with the Reds says it’s not that serious.”

First and foremost, let me praise moderation!
If Madsen had been willing to go 4/40, wouldn’t he still be a Phillie?
David Young - January 10, 2012
I thought the scuttlebutt was that Madson was willing to go 4/40, but Phillies ownership nixed the deal.

There was a court mediator (another judge) working on this Fox vs. McCourt case. The same guy who helped settle McCourt vs. MLB. He seems to be pretty good at his job.

Tommy Blackjack - January 10, 2012
When Fox contract runs out
I just want free Dodgers baseball on TV. Imgettingitrite?
Xeifrank - January 10, 2012
No.
Dodgers will operate as Pay-Per-View entity beginning in 2014. Regular season games will be available through your local cable or satellite provider for $4.95. Selected rivalry games will cost $9.95.
silverwidow - January 10, 2012
the KCAL broadcast TV package separate from Fox rights : )
Josie Becker - January 10, 2012
Yes but the only way you get the big money
100M plus is to sell all available games to your cable distributor. Like KCAL losing the Lakers next year, expect the Dodgers and Angels to go off the broadcast affiliates sooner than later.
bhsportsguy - January 10, 2012
that sure is gonna make cutting the cable cord a more difficult decision.
Josie Becker - January 10, 2012
Also the KCAL package
ends in 2013 too.
bhsportsguy - January 10, 2012
Riiiiiight
Eric Stephen - January 10, 2012
free Dodger baseball?
or the crap that silverwidow said?
Xeifrank - January 10, 2012
[uncomfortable silence]
silverwidow - January 10, 2012
I would say that we are far far away from
Pay-per-view in the United States for anything outside boxing, wrestling and MMA
bhsportsguy - January 10, 2012
Speaking of this
Wrestling is about lose a ton of PPV revenue with WWE creating their own network. McMahon is putting the majority of his major events on the network for free in the hopes he’ll get carriage on most platforms.
silverwidow - January 10, 2012
Sounds like they want to pair it on the same tier as other premium sports channels
like MLB, NFL etc.
They are keeping their largest events on PPV basis for now.
They hope to be on 40M homes in April.
bhsportsguy - January 10, 2012
KCAL is living on borrowed time.
Eric Stephen - January 10, 2012
do you remember if the new Fox-Angel deal kills KCOP broadcasts?
Josie Becker - January 10, 2012
Outside of knowing its the reason for all the money being spent right now
there has yet to be an official announcement about the extension.
bhsportsguy - January 10, 2012
Interesting
the deal with Fox was tailored so some games would be on broadcast TV. But Fox as the power to adjust that number that is something to watch for in the coming seasons.
bhsportsguy - January 10, 2012
the Dodger deal or the Angel deal?
Josie Becker - January 10, 2012
The Angel deal
the Dodgers deal is with Fox for cable and KCAL for broadcast, those entities are not related.
bhsportsguy - January 10, 2012
right, KCOP is a Fox property, just like Fox produces Ducks broadcasts on KDOC. Would be cool if Big Fox picked up some Dodger games.
Josie Becker - January 10, 2012
If you are talking
Prime Ticket or Time Warner or something similar sure. If you are talking broadcast TV like KCAL, doubtful. If you are talking streaming, not unless you live out of market.
bhsportsguy - January 10, 2012
I am talking
Channels 1-80 on Time Warner Cable. One of the channels I get. I know you don’t know what channels I get. As far as I can tell the only non 2-13 channels I get that show sports are ESPN, ESPN2, FOX, TNT maybe WGN for Cubs and MTV for Mob Wives.
Xeifrank - January 10, 2012
First and foremost, let me praise television competition!
If by FOX you mean FSN West on channel 41 and Prime Ticket on 42, that’s where I’d expect Dodger games if Fox gets the new contract. I imagine Time Warner will add the new Time Warner Lakers/Dodgers channel to Time Warner cable lineups. And add a buck or two to your bill.

Though Hawk will likely be back early in the spring anyway. Supposed to miss 4-6 weeks after surgery tomorrow.

I also would like to state my disagreement that Jansen is the current closer. It’s Guerra, until it’s not.

On to the sale
Assuming sale is set by April 30 as promised, how long will it take for the new ownership to start driving the car? Believe entire ownership must vote. Know it can be done by conference call but don’t believe it usually goes that way?
Say a conference call or meeting is done before the All Star Game or at it and Dodgers are hovering at 3-7 games out, a few games under 500, perhaps a few games above. If this is the case and there are opportunities in the Wild Card as well. Do you think the Dodgers could get a nice infusion of cash and go for it? Or does ownership watch and pitch a few pennies and then clean house-preparing for 2014 when they have all of the TV money and some crap coming off the payroll.
