Dodgers, Fox End Fight

This camera will belong to Fox, at least through 2013.

This camera will belong to Fox, at least through 2013.

The last remaining battle of the Dodgers ongoing bankruptcy proceedings, between Frank McCourt and Fox, is now over. Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times tweeted that the Dodgers have agreed to honor their existing contract with Fox (which runs through 2013) in exchange for Fox ending their pending litigation against the team.

That's one less roadblock to the upcoming sale. Now, as Shaikin noted, the team can "get on with the business of selling the team." Now we wait for McCourt and his crew to pick a bidder for the team, which will be sold by April 30.

To quote Roy Hobbs, "pick a winner."

so know that this is settled

what’s the likelyhood the team re-ups with Fox?

slim to not happening, Time Warner is serious about getting their RSN together, and baseball is key to them having enough live programming

I wouldn't say that

Fox would lose an RSN slot (Prime Ticket or FSN West) if they lose the Dodgers so they could very well pony up some cash plus they are the only entity that can pay them money before the end of 2012.

I would prefer the Dodgers be the big fish on PrimeTicket than be the sidekick on the new TW Lakers channel… but I guess it all depends on who the new owners are and who offers the most money.

i don't think they'd be the sidekick

they’d be the summer attraction.

more a partnership

oh it’s definitely going to be a battle, I just think summer is going to be looooong if it’s just the Galaxy holding up the tent at TW

Only two players, one with lots to gain, the other with lots to lose, to say one has a slim to not happening chance seems ………..well………… very Josie like.

One thing that Fox could do

is offer a stake of Prime Ticket to the new owner of the Dodgers plus up the rights fees. Also offer more room for original Dodger programming and maybe even build a studio on site.

Time Warner still needs to sell the Laker channel to distributors.

Ryan Madson to the Reds, per Heyman

gah rumors

“Reds are serious about Madson”

“Someone with the Reds says it’s not that serious.”

“Reds sign Madson”

Apparently only a one-year deal.

“in excess of $10 million,” per Bob Nightengale

First and foremost, let me praise moderation!

If Madsen had been willing to go 4/40, wouldn’t he still be a Phillie?

I thought the scuttlebutt was that Madson was willing to go 4/40, but Phillies ownership nixed the deal.

Dave, you have to stop speaking in exclamations!

He might have been a filly.

Wordplay!

First and foremost, let me praise LGBT!

That is one way to solve the pitcher’s cup issue raised in the last thread.

I thought a filly was a horse

a young, female horse

but it’s also Roaring 20s slang for a young, female human, back when people still bet on the fillies down at the track

Winning Colors

was the last filly to _ the _____ _.

win the Kentucky Derby?

Yep

I remember watching.

I thought it was a sandwich

First and foremost, let me praise bargains!

Jerry Crasnick reporting 1/8.5.

There was a court mediator (another judge) working on this Fox vs. McCourt case. The same guy who helped settle McCourt vs. MLB. He seems to be pretty good at his job.

thoughts?

Publicity hound.

i have yet to really watch it

but i don’t like how he’s presenting himself. It’s not an election dude.

When Fox contract runs out

I just want free Dodgers baseball on TV. Imgettingitrite?

No.

Dodgers will operate as Pay-Per-View entity beginning in 2014. Regular season games will be available through your local cable or satellite provider for $4.95. Selected rivalry games will cost $9.95.

the KCAL broadcast TV package separate from Fox rights : )

Yes but the only way you get the big money

100M plus is to sell all available games to your cable distributor. Like KCAL losing the Lakers next year, expect the Dodgers and Angels to go off the broadcast affiliates sooner than later.

that sure is gonna make cutting the cable cord a more difficult decision.

Also the KCAL package

ends in 2013 too.

Riiiiiight

free Dodger baseball?

or the crap that silverwidow said?

[uncomfortable silence]

I would say that we are far far away from

Pay-per-view in the United States for anything outside boxing, wrestling and MMA

Speaking of this

Wrestling is about lose a ton of PPV revenue with WWE creating their own network. McMahon is putting the majority of his major events on the network for free in the hopes he’ll get carriage on most platforms.

Sounds like they want to pair it on the same tier as other premium sports channels

like MLB, NFL etc.

They are keeping their largest events on PPV basis for now.

They hope to be on 40M homes in April.

KCAL is living on borrowed time.

do you remember if the new Fox-Angel deal kills KCOP broadcasts?

Outside of knowing its the reason for all the money being spent right now

there has yet to be an official announcement about the extension.

Interesting

the deal with Fox was tailored so some games would be on broadcast TV. But Fox as the power to adjust that number that is something to watch for in the coming seasons.

the Dodger deal or the Angel deal?

The Angel deal

the Dodgers deal is with Fox for cable and KCAL for broadcast, those entities are not related.

right, KCOP is a Fox property, just like Fox produces Ducks broadcasts on KDOC. Would be cool if Big Fox picked up some Dodger games.

If you are talking

Prime Ticket or Time Warner or something similar sure. If you are talking broadcast TV like KCAL, doubtful. If you are talking streaming, not unless you live out of market.

I am talking

Channels 1-80 on Time Warner Cable. One of the channels I get. I know you don’t know what channels I get. As far as I can tell the only non 2-13 channels I get that show sports are ESPN, ESPN2, FOX, TNT maybe WGN for Cubs and MTV for Mob Wives.

First and foremost, let me praise television competition!

If by FOX you mean FSN West on channel 41 and Prime Ticket on 42, that’s where I’d expect Dodger games if Fox gets the new contract. I imagine Time Warner will add the new Time Warner Lakers/Dodgers channel to Time Warner cable lineups. And add a buck or two to your bill.

Praise the lord

Amen.

More like Lockblom amirite?

per Dylan H:

Dodger right-hander Blake Hawksworth will undergo arthroscopic surgery tomorrow on his right elbow to clean up scar tissue and a spur.
as if he wasn't already?

opens the door for one of the NRIs………yay……

First and foremost, let me praise Dr. Neal El Attrache!

I wonder if Erin’s bro started feeling something recently while doing his workouts, or is this is something that has been in the works? If the latter, seems like it could have been done earlier.

First and foremost, let me praise the beat writers!

My answer comes from Dylan Hernandez:

Hawksworth…experienced discomfort on the back of his elbow when he started his off-season throwing program early last month. He was shut down for some time, but when he resumed throwing a couple of weeks ago, the discomfort was still there.

Source: MLB Depth Charts

Who likely fills in on the current depth chart?

Lindblom.

Though Hawk will likely be back early in the spring anyway. Supposed to miss 4-6 weeks after surgery tomorrow.

I also would like to state my disagreement that Jansen is the current closer. It’s Guerra, until it’s not.

We should know by now some funky ass scrub will win a job and surprise us all.

Maybe a
scrub by the name of Kuo???

First and foremost, let me praise muscular Christianity! Helps stave off elbow problems!

The spur

is Manu Ginobli

ah...

the kind of spur that flops around shamelessly in your elbow

Back-and-forth at Staples

Suns led 19-10 through 8 minutes
Lakers went on 15-0 run to end first quarter, including 13 from Kobe in those 4 minutes
Lakers extended run to 25-4
Suns responded with 15-2 run
Lakers ended half with 9-4 run

Sentence I just heard from a commercial

“Stop spending $100 per year on disposable lint rollers.”

OK, I will.

reminds me of a line from The Office:

“Forget everything you know about fitness.” “Done.”

I don’t think I could collect enough lint in my neighborhood to spend $100 per year on lint rollers.

also reminds me of this

does your cat make too much NOISE all the time?!

Think there’s no solution? You’re so stupid!

“Does anybody in the audience have a pair of kitty handcuffs?” /stevemartin

I dream of getting my lint roller bill into the triple digits.

My favorite part of Twitter is the global filter on Tweetdeck.

First and foremost, let me praise old baseball coaches!

Tommy looking out for Roberto Baly, trying to keep the young’un from looking like the photo of Tony Conigliaro in the last thread.

Made me LOL as the kids say.

First and foremost, let me praise the incredibly short half-life of most internet memes!

I doubt I will keep this nonsense up past today.

ensuring a Clips win tomorrow : )

Heat

Have in easier flight than the Clippers though

surprise. Looking ahead to the Clippers obviously.

Clippers

could use a better coach though. Feel sorry for the players. They actually have a pretty talented team.

Amen

Vinny is the #1 obstacle to the team’s success. He is a terrible NBA coach.
PS – I replied to your Stanford tennis team thread in the previous post. I also knew those guys.

I am this old

Jim Barnett, current color commentator on the Golden State Warriors broadcast team, was a 27 year old player for the Warriors at the first NBA game I attended at the Forum in October 1971.

but you look good

In Chicago – Vin Scully is on the NFL network right now calling “The Catch” game

I saw

That, just watching the end of the Heat vs. Warriors game

The Catch and The Immaculate Reception

Do the Steelers of the 70’s become the Steelers of the 70’s without Franco making that catch?

Do the Niners become the Niners of the 80s without Montana to Clark

I wasn’t alive but the ball clearly touched Frenchy Fuqua.

He can get heart-fuqued.

Vin

Gets excited a lot when calling a football game.

This was his last football broadcast, CBS went with Summerall and Madden as their No. 1 team and they broadcast the 1982 Super Bowl between the 49ers and Bengals.

Good old

Hacksaw Reynolds playing linebacker for the Niners

First and foremost,

let me praise facial hair!

I disliked the Cowboys

Back then so I was happy to see the 49ers win that day.

THE MIND REELS!!!!!

First and foremost, let me praise editing!

That camera image shows Dioner has no heart.

First and foremost, let me praise thinking!

No heart or no philosophy?

First and foremost

let me praise rich dudes! Bill Shaikin IDs another prospective Dodgers buyer: Tom Barrack.

Barrack heads Colony Capital, a Santa Monica firm that controls $34 billion in assets, according to Forbes. Barrack’s interest was confirmed by two people familiar with the matter but not authorized to comment.
One sticky wicket:
Colony also has investments in gaming, an association that MLB generally frowns upon.

Let's

Praise Bill Shaikin.

On to the sale

Assuming sale is set by April 30 as promised, how long will it take for the new ownership to start driving the car? Believe entire ownership must vote. Know it can be done by conference call but don’t believe it usually goes that way?

Say a conference call or meeting is done before the All Star Game or at it and Dodgers are hovering at 3-7 games out, a few games under 500, perhaps a few games above. If this is the case and there are opportunities in the Wild Card as well. Do you think the Dodgers could get a nice infusion of cash and go for it? Or does ownership watch and pitch a few pennies and then clean house-preparing for 2014 when they have all of the TV money and some crap coming off the payroll.

I dont know

HJ you were up dreadfully early this morning

New post

This is all I care about.

That’s one less roadblock to the upcoming sale.
