True Blue LA

True Blue Los Angeles Fantastical Base Ball League

Welcome ladies, gentlemen, and those who've yet to decide, to the 2012 TBLA Fantasy Baseball League! It's going to be fun, it's going to be awesome, it's going to be super great.

Start here. The league name is True Blue Los Angeles (ID# 22409), our custom URL is http://baseball.fantasysports.yahoo.com/league/trueblue. The password is drematic.

It's a head to head league, with a live draft. The draft will be Thursday, March 1st at 8pm. There is a limit of 12 teams, so I'll update this fanpost as teams are taken. An FYI on the first week:

The Major League Baseball season opens this season on March 28, with the Mariners and Athletics playing a two-game series in Tokyo, Japan. As a result, Yahoo! has combined those two games with the abbreviated opening week for all other teams that begins with the Cardinals-Marlins game on April 4.

Week 1 of the Fantasy Baseball Head-to-Head season will run from March 28-April 8.

**Update**

Ladies and Gentlemen we're full! Super proud y'all, like a peacock. If someone wants to create a second TBLA league, Yahoo! (an SBNation partner) makes it super easy, but I will not be commissioning two leagues. The league is as follows:

  • Hollywood Stars (Josie Becker)
  • OC Batmans of LA (nolander)
  • Houston Memes (Nolij)
  • The Kyle Russells (IVDown)
  • Ya Blue It! (funkyjam)
  • Downs Syndrome (IIIDown)
  • Powers of a Mod (David Young)
  • Frogtown Tadpoles
  • Soccer Rules (Xeifrank)
  • Inverted W's (GScott)
  • Doobie Snacks (skunkburner)
  • Eric's Pimp Suit (Taylor Marcie)

Teams are now locked, this was done so that I could set a randomly selected draft order. If you currently have a team and wish to leave the league, you'll have to let me know so I can unlock it. The draft order is as follows:

  1. Powers of a Mod
  2. Soccer Rules
  3. Hollywood Stars
  4. Doobie Snacks
  5. Frogtown Tadpoles
  6. Downs Syndrome
  7. Ya Blue It!
  8. The Kyle Russells
  9. Eric's Pimp Suit
  10. Inverted W's
  11. OC Batmans of LA
  12. Houston Memes

It's a snaking order, so those who picked last in the first round will pick first in the second round. First picks are rarely a surprise in the draft, and again the order was randomly produced by Yahoo!, but I wouldn't plan on Powers of a Mod going insane and passing on Matt Kemp with the first pick.

I'm in

You’ll never know who I am

I might join

When I get home

What? No message from the Commish on the league site?

Get on the ball!

BTW. The link above takes you to the league site. (Which you can’t get in until you join the league.) So you have to back out and start at the beginning.

In other words

start here, then click “join a league”

Doesn't March 1 seem a bit early for a draft?

Would closer to the end of Spring Training be better?

I like beginnings better than endings. Plus risk is increased (slightly) in taking the injury prone.

The Houston Memes is me, at least until I think of a better name.

I'm in.
Wait, I missed it? aaaaggghhhh. The league's full now.

Never mind.

Nooooooooo.
I'm sure we could have a second league.

12 spots for all of TBLA seems like we’d be leaving out a lot of guys that want to play.

more than 12 teams sucks

I meant that there should be a second fantasy league.
Each with 12 teams.

Someone who isn’t already in the first league should start it, and at the end of the year we’ll see if Xeifrank will play the two winners against each other in a best of 7 series.

THRILLED with the standard 5×5 stats. I was dreading the idea of drafting Jamey Carroll for his OBP.

ok I'm in.

As of now, I may miss the draft due to a night class. But I’m in it to win it. I will autodraft the next best player and edit my team whenI get a min. Or I just may miss the first couple of rounds. Awesome! Excited to play.

GM of Eric's Pimp Suit, reporting for duty!
So anyway, there wouldn't be any places for me now, would there.

It says it’s full

Trying to figure out who Felipe, Joey and Anthony are.

joey joe perhaps?

realized that after i posted.

I post under the sweet sknnky name of Skunkburner.

I met some of you and Eric at a TBLA game in April of 2010. We played the Pirates. My wife and I were on vaca. Took a break from Disney to do something I wanted to do. We sat 7 rows behind Pitt dugout. But I came up to you guys for a bit to introduce myself and meet some of you. I read all year long, but only post during games. Well not exclusively. I write “suck it pandouche!”, but I’m going to reitre that now. Look forward to a kickass season!!

Damnit, how did I miss out on this?

See, i still say we need to make a second league for those who missed it.
Not that this should fall on Josie, just suggesting that people left out make their own as well.
Just wondering, do you get to play in a league if you start it?

I think we should establish draft order ahead of time so we have more of an opportunity to game plan.

that sounded like a good idea

so I locked us in, I’ll update the post with the draft order

Aww

I was hoping for some sort of crafty, fun way to determine draft order. :)

I will except Franklins folded into swans

I pick 9th- my Varsity uni number.

IGT.

lol

Last year I drafted Kershaw and Kemp in the first and seconds rounds, and sucked. this year looks like that’s not gonna happen.

I pick first!?

Holy shit. I guess in a TBLA league, I will have to pick Matt Kemp, but that may put Xeifrank and Josie in the catbird’s seat pickup up Albert Pujols and Hanley Ramirez with the next two picks.

I actually have no idea how to prioritize drafting for a league like this, so y’all are probably better off that I got first pick.

I don't think Hanley is a top 3 pick anymore

I’ve seen people putting him near the 8-10 spot. But if you think the Marlins will kick ass then it might be worth it.

My brain said Miggy Cabrera, my fingers typed HanRam.

I think Xeifrank is licking his chops at #2.

I can’t imagine you can go that much wrong by picking Kemp #1 overall.

Don’t interrupt my poor-mouthing. I need pre-planted excuses for my poor performance.

i’ve never done worse than when i have the first overall pick.

The good about having the first overall pick is that you get the best player (hopefully). It is much nicer when the #1 overall player is a clear cut choice. The bad is that you cannot take advantage of someone elses mistake(s) until the 24th pick in a 12 team snake draft.

Oh ok, makes sense

I’m a little worried at 4th overall, the 3 best guys are clearly Miggy, Pujols, Kemp, and I have not a ton of faith in Tulo so I’ve really gotta think about who i want.

I remember meeting skunkburner

who could easily be either Frogtown Tadpoles (Atwater represent!) or Doobie Snacks. ;-)

It would be Doobie Snacks!
Looking for one replacement owner

for my keeper league. Here is a link to the league description. You’d be taking over a team. There is no money involved but we are in our 8th year. The draft is offline on a message board and requires a fair amount of time. Keepers are slotted in to the round they were drafted in, and moved down a few slots if you keep them long term. The draft is snake format and each pick can take no more than 3 hours with a 6 hour blackout period late at night. Standard 5×5 roto scoring using Yahoo. First come first serve.

position filled, thanks.

Proud of my roster, even though it's probably going to fall apart since all of my bench hitters are buy low options

Starters:
C- Matt Weiters (Orioles)
1B- Mark Reynolds (Orioles)
2B- Danny Espinosa (Nationals)
SS- Troy Tulowitzki (Rockies)
3B- Ryan Zimmerman (Nationals)
OF- Alex Gordon (Royals)
OF- Drew Stubbs (Reds)
OF- Nick Markakis (Orioles)
U- Billy Butler (Royals)
U- Jeff Francoeur (Royals)
SP- Roy Halladay (Phillies)
SP- Stephen Strasburg (Nationals)
SP- Ricky Romero (Blue Jays)
SP- Bud Norris (Astros)
RP- Craig Kimbrel (Braves)
RP- Jason Motte (Cardinals)
RP- Brandon League (Mariners)

RP- Chris Perez (Indians)
Bench:

SP- Mark Buehrle (Marlins)
SP- Edwin Jackson (Nationals)
1B- Adam Dunn (White Sox) [I’m hoping he rebounds, a 40+ HR season would be great]
2B- Kelly Johnson (Blue Jays) [Same as above, hoping for a rebound season]
C- Devin Mesoraco (Reds) [One of the top catching prospects getting his first real crack at the majors, figured he’d be worth a roster spot in case he takes off]
