Jeremy Lin
good at basketball
the jerk
Tommy Blackjack - February 10, 2012
Lin owns, Kobe owns, the rest of this game is really terrible.
regfairfield - February 10, 2012
agreed
i don’t want to take anything from Lin, as he has really showed some great stuff.
Tommy Blackjack - February 10, 2012
I would like to take several things from Lin.
Beginning with one or two limbs.
Eric Stephen - February 10, 2012
Never heard of this guy until this week. Wow
Phil Gurnee - February 10, 2012
he’s ESPN’s new golden boy, get ready
Tommy Blackjack - February 10, 2012
So how much does Kobe hate every other person on the team?
regfairfield - February 10, 2012
Kobe was also a huge chucker tonight going something like 11 for 30 (1 for 5 from 3.) If he doesn’t pull down 10 rebounds, he probably ends up with a negative WP tonight.
Michael White - February 10, 2012
Fair. On the other hand why not chuck when no one can score when he’s being triple teamed.
regfairfield - February 10, 2012
Don’t feel bad. I STILL have never heard of this guy.
Also, Lin is a girl’s name.

Whatcha trying to say
Maddz - February 10, 2012
In my eight years of posting on Dodger blogs, this is the very first time I’ve been asked that question.
Here is my answer:
I have no fucking idea. Do you?
Humma Kavula - February 10, 2012
Ditto.
And I should, since I live near Oakland.
DodgerofTrolleys - February 11, 2012
Am I glad
I missed this game? Or was the Linsanity Show a great one? Without looking, I am going to guess that Fisher guarded him a lot. ??
Xeifrank - February 10, 2012
Andrew Bynum was 1 for 8.
Metta World Peace I think committed fouls on three straight possessions.
The Lakers were, in a word, lethargic.
Eric Stephen - February 10, 2012
understandable ...
Older team on a back to back game where they just played a hard fought game against boston the night before.
Venergy - February 11, 2012 via mobile
he killed
Tommy Blackjack - February 10, 2012
But I did get to tweet this during the game
Eric Stephen - February 10, 2012
For a team with two seven footers Jeremy Lin sure was allowed to drive to the hoop a lot.
regfairfield - February 10, 2012
I don’t understand how the Lakers rank as one of the best defenses in the NBA. Whenever I comment on twitter how crappy their defense is, I get killed by someone with a quiver of new fangled basketball stats. Their defense just doesn’t pass the eye ball test for me. They give up a ton of easy layups. I don’t see that from the teams they play against. My guess is Bynum someone how raises their defense ??
Xeifrank - February 10, 2012
Defensive rating of 101.1 (before tonight) which is 11th out of 30.
Michael White - February 10, 2012
Jon Barry made this point at halftime
When the PG blows by his defender on the pick and roll so quickly and takes a straight line to the hoop, the big men don’t have time to rotate and threaten his shot. What’s needed is a PG who can at least stay on Lin’s hip and trouble him somewhat. Blake does this better than Fisher, who has been the worst pick and roll defender in the league for at least the past three seasons.
The Dude Abides - February 10, 2012
If the Lakers lose in Toronto on Sunday, I am officially pulling the plug on their season.
Eric Stephen - February 10, 2012
This of course means nothing, other than me being mentally frustrated.
Eric Stephen - February 10, 2012
Just get to the playoffs healthy and go from there. /every team
Xeifrank - February 10, 2012
The seed of doubt that Phil planted in my brain three or so weeks ago that the Lakers might not even make the playoffs has started to sprout and take over the yard.
Eric Stephen - February 10, 2012
Yeah that is definitely in the realm of possibilities. They probably have a better chance of missing the playoffs than making the NBA finals.
Xeifrank - February 10, 2012
Correct
Michael White - February 10, 2012
Looks like Portland, OKC and San Antonio are the only ones in the WC that buck that trend.
Xeifrank - February 10, 2012
As of right now, 3 way tie for the 6 through 8 spots between LAL, Portland and Denver. Utah 1/2 game back, Memphis 1 game back. If Memphis gets ZBo back soon…
Michael White - February 10, 2012
My quick perusal of the Lakers schedule on that day had their worst case scenario IMO at 18-17 through 35 games. And that was including a 2-4 Grammy trip, and they are 2-3.
They are 15-12 now, but their next five games are all winnable (road at Toronto and Phoenix, home for Atlanta, Phoenix, and Portland). I am assuming losses at Dallas and OKC, and they host Minnesota on February 29. They would really have to suck to be 18-17 at the end of February.
Eric Stephen - February 10, 2012
Healthy?
Are healthy crappy players better than unhealthy crappy players?
preacher roe - February 11, 2012
if they lose in Toronto
There is going to be serious changes
Tommy Blackjack - February 10, 2012
Any ideas?
Michael White - February 10, 2012
Jeremy Lin, LOL
Seriously though, I have no clue how basketball trades work.
Rockets are reportedly interested in Gasol, but they won’t give up Lowry
Tommy Blackjack - February 10, 2012
Love Lowry, I wouldn’t move him either. Simmons had one of his crazy trade ideas (why hasn’t this happened yet?!?) artices today which had Gasol to Houston, LAL number 1 pick to Boston and Rondo and Jermaine O’Neal to LAL. Of course there’s a half dozen other players in a trade that has no shot of happening.
Michael White - February 10, 2012
i'm wondering if they could do a three team trade with Houston and the Nets
to land the Lakers D Will. But the Nets won’t trade him until the Howard situation is resolved once and for all
Tommy Blackjack - February 10, 2012
I’m surprised they’ve won this many games, to be honest.
Pure Azure - February 10, 2012 via Android app
I’m with you on this. Coming in to this season I said neither Fisher nor MWP should be on an NBA roster anymore. Their play has proven my point, but sadly the play of the others at that position has also proven me wrong. Both positions are huge black holes of crap.
VegasBlues - February 10, 2012
Yep
I didn’t think Kobe would be this energized, but I was also hoping Ebanks and Murphy and Kapono would be more of a factor.
Pure Azure - February 11, 2012 via Android app

Your only other good offensive player for a smaller offensive player that needs to handle the ball as much as Kobe to be effective does not sound wise.

So let's see

regfairfield - February 11, 2012
jeremy lin
He’s Steve Nash.
Never seen a player play this well after never playing at all.
He’s definitely legit.
Knicks seem to be way better with the offense going thru him…when Carmelo comes back i wonder how their chemistry will be though…The Suns under D’Antoni had everything ran thru Nash/Stoudamire…not sure if their offense will run that well with the ball out of Lin’s hands and in Carmelo’s.
Joey Joe - February 10, 2012
As someone with at least a decent enough education you say a lot of stupid shit.
Steve Nash is a 2 time MVP and one of the better PG’s (if not the best) of his era.
Jeremy Lin has had four good games in his life. Two of those games were against the Wizards and Nets. One of the other two games he had Derek Fisher guarding him for approximately 23 minutes.
In two of those games he had a total of 14 turnovers.
Jeremy Lin is playing some really good ball right now. Lets see how he plays when teams actually game plan for him. Him and Stoudamire could actually make a pretty good duo if he can continue playing his up-tempo game and start limiting the turnovers some more. He wont mesh with Carmelo at all though and there is no way in hell the Knicks will do anything to upset Melo (even if it is for the good of the team).
VegasBlues - February 10, 2012
Game plan what?
Its basketball.
Its basic.
Steve Nash is a 2 time MVP.
But he didnt do anything till his 5th or 6th year in the league.
http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/n/nashst01.html
Nash’s 1st 2 years in the NBA – he started 11 games total.
He didnt average more than 10 points a game till his 6th year in the league.
Even Magic Johnson said Lin plays exactly like Nash.
They are the exact same size, play the exact same way, and play for the same coach – a coach that made Nash into a star and his system will do the same for Lin because Lin has the skills to do it. You can watch 1 game or 4 games and see he has the skills to play NBA basketball.
Baron Davis should just retire because he’s never going to get off the bench.
Wizards he played against John Wall – the #1 overall pick in the draft.
Nets he went up against Deron Williams.
Stop hating.
Joey Joe - February 10, 2012
I know close to nothing about anything but...
wasn’t the guy released by not 1 but 2 teams? Seems like a guy worth being bullish on until he has more then 4 games under his belt
nolander - February 10, 2012
the rockets made a bad mistake
And Daryl Morey just this week said it on twitter.
He said they didnt realize how good Lin was.
With Golden State it was obvious why he didnt play – Steph Curry and Monte Ellis both need the ball in their hands, and are both good players.
I dont think Lin would have as much success if he was in another system (if he was on the Lakers he’d probably be playing like Steve Blake)…but with D’Antoni he’s the right guy in the right situation.
Joey Joe - February 11, 2012
Basketball is a ten-man game
Lin excels at it. However, he can’t run the pick and roll in two-man tryouts for draft scouts or in scrimmages/practices when it’s three on three and he’s paired up with a couple scrubs. If you’re not drafted, you have a whole host of non-basketball factors to overcome if you want significant playing time, the foremost being guys on guaranteed contracts. Lin tore up the summer league in 2010, GS outbid the Lakers for his services, then he got stuck at the end of the bench behind Monta Ellis and Steph Curry. The Warriors cut him, Houston picked him up and sent him to the D-League, and he tore it up as well. Houston cut him to free up a roster spot and because they’re committed to two very good PGs in Kyle Lowry and Goran Dragic.
Each time he’s done well, it’s been in an actual game, where all ten players and the entire court come into play. Kupchak has never been competent at drafting PGs (Crittenton instead of Aaron Brooks, Sun Yue instead of Ramon Sessions, etc.), so it’s no surprise that Mitch passed him up twice in the 2010 second round so he could select Ebanks and Caracter.
The Dude Abides - February 11, 2012
Lin is a good player, and will be a good player in this league. But taking four games, where he is shooting an astronomical percentage from everywhere on the floor (especially at the rim and in the midrange game. He’s at like 80% from the rim, which is completely unsustainable and not realistic) and using that to compare him to an all-time great is a little silly. The thing that separates Nash from everyone else is that he is one of the best shooters to ever play the game. Lin has never been much of an outside shooter in his basketball career, and he will need to sustain his shooting for over 4 games to change that opinion. Without making jumpers, he cannot penetrate and finish like he has been doing. He will also be defended differently, and while he obviously is smart enough to make his own adjustments, there will be some down periods for him.
I wish nothing but the best for him, and this run is pretty awesome, but its just not sustainable, especially when Melo (the biggest ball stopper in the league) comes back and demands his 20 shots a game.
UCLADodger32 - February 10, 2012
the chemistry with melo is going to be interesting
i think D’antoni’s system works best with the ball in the PG’s hands.
As for Lin’s run being unsustainable…he shoots alot of easy open jumpers. He really does take good smart shots. And almost everything is off of pick and roll. So if the defender goes under, he’s shooting an open shot. If he’s hedged…he splits the double and drives and or passes out of the double team.
D’Antoni said tonight:
Joey Joe - February 11, 2012
John Wall? The game before Wall played Lin he went up against Jerryd Bayless. Bayless scored 30 that game. That was 19 points more than he’s averaged per game this year and 12 points above his previous season high and 1 point below his career high for a game. Most good PG’s (and even some mediocre ones) score at will on him. He isn’t really known for being a defensive PG.
Deron Williams? Have you bothered to watch a single Nets game this year? Deron Williams hasn’t even been trying this year.
Oh, I really like both Wall and Williams as players. I’m not trying to bash them in anyway.

Many are out at the softball tourney….and I think Oswalt ends up in STL.
JB 8 - February 11, 2012
Thanks JB! St. Louis would be a great destination for him. Derek Lilliquist is the Cardinals new pitching coach, he replaced Dave Duncan who was an incredible coach. Anyways Lilliquist is a very close personal friend of mine and he was also my High School baseball coach from 1998-2000. He’s an awesome dude….tough as nails…..can bench over 400 lbs!

Softball tourney
No one updating from the games? On DT, Jon has been doing so sporadically. He told us TBLA started well 4-0, then fell behind 6-4. No more updates – what happened? (That one must be over by now.) Meanwhile he says DT are 19-1 after 3 innings!
berkowit28 - February 11, 2012
Yeah hope everyone is having fun, look forward to more updates and some pics
(especially ones of people falling on their asses ;) ) from your tourney later! WIsh I lived closer.
If anyone is in the SF area or comes up, let me know if you’re up for playing catch at least. I need to break in my new glove! Want to start playing softball again this year.
Meanwhile, excited to know pitchers and catchers are starting to report… getting closer!

Sure you all are having fun and playing softball but does it really match the joy of packing all of your worldly possessions into cardboard boxes.

It was so much fun. I hope we can do this more often.

Any Advice?
A friend of mine has got me involved in a new NL Scoresheet baseball fantasy league (a perpetual league). We have just started our draft, and I am supposed to make my first round pick (#10 overall) in an hour and a half. These are the players who have already gone off the board, in order:
Kershaw
Tulowitzski
Kemp
Upton
Votto
McCutchen
Stanton
Gonzalez (Carlos)
Strasburg
Does anybody familiar with Scoresheet fantasy baseball have any advice about who I should pick #10 overall? I also pick #15 overall, so I wouldn’t mind suggestions for that pick either.
CanuckDodger - February 11, 2012
I’ve never done Scoresheet, but if this league has keepers, I’d definitely take Ryan Braun. At #15, Hanley or Jose Reyes might be a nice pick.
Nolij - February 11, 2012
Oh man
so as G and I were leaving the complex, one of the guys from Save the Dodgers was interviewing Josh Macciello and BOY does that guy look like a douche.
Maddz - February 11, 2012
I'm all in for Jared Kushner ... Ivanka for all! Love that chick
JLS23 - February 11, 2012
Yeah, I’m done with him.
Nolij - February 11, 2012
I really hate to say this, I really do
since I don’t want to be taken at my appearance, I’d rather be judged for my intellect, but if you’re presenting yourself as the future owner of the Dodgers, I’d rather you look slick like McCourt and not like the dude who accidentally poured beer all over me in the loge because he was too drunk.
Maddz - February 11, 2012
Arte Moreno is beloved as a fan-friendly owner and he dresses nicely. Nobody takes Josh seriously because he doesn’t even take himself seriously.
Nolij - February 11, 2012
I feel like at some point, “manages billions” has to translate in “doesn’t look like he’ll cut you”
Maddz - February 11, 2012

regfairfield - February 11, 2012
I hope so!
Maddz - February 11, 2012
It’s obvious he is if you research any of the guys claims, so at this point he’s just a really good joke on ESPN.

Great Day of Softball
That softball tourney really made my day. Thank you TBLA. It was really great to meet many of you. I will try to be less “staulker-ish” in the future and post more often. I would definitely be interested in a pick-up softball game in the future if we could ever get that together again.

Those Braves, who had a 23-year old Bob McAdoo score 34.5 points and grab 14.1 rebounds per game, would win their next four to start 21-8.
But then they lost 6 of 7. Still ended up with the best record in franchise history at 49-33 (.598).
This year’s Clippers’ team should be able to beat that win%. Need to win 40 games (.606), so they would need to finish 23-18 the rest of the way. Easy peasy.

LFP2 beat Dodger Diaries 18-12 in the final game. Both teams were ringers. One dude crushed a HR out of Dodger Stadium against us in the semi-finals out over the left field bullpen. Another guy hit the black screen in dead center field.

Hollywood Joe - February 11, 2012
It was great meeting you guys.
In the finals, LFP2 came back from a 3rd inning 5-12 deficit against Dodger Diaries to win 18-12. Dodger Diaries had a great pitcher who put all kinds of crazy backspin on the ball, and LFP struggled to square it up the first few innings, on top of making quite a few uncharacteristic errors at the onset. They stormed back in the 3rd and 4th with a couple bombs.

Maddz - February 11, 2012
The one thing I noticed about almost all of the teams today was that nearly everyone had skills, and could hit a bit. The only thing missing was the coordination between players that only comes with practice together. As a former player and manager, I have found that anyone who can walk and chew gum can play softball with some success, but with practice together, a formidable team can be had. Hence: Spring training. It takes awhile to figure where everyone is going to be at any time on every play, and it takes practice to hit well.
With the talent on the TBLA team, next time might be different, as long as the injuries can be held to a minimum.
Anyway, I enjoyed watching today, and wish I could have stayed to the end, but the wind was playing havoc with my eyes, and I didn’t want to drive home into the sun. Too dangerous for me and the other cars on the road.
It was fun meeting all of you, and putting faces to the names that I see everyday on TBLA. Wish I had been young enough to play today. Brought back some fun memories.

reading through this thread later I was amused at how attacking someone’s education or intelligence was the step taken when if all joey Joe says is “lin’s play style reminds me a bit of Steve nash, and I wonder if mike d’antoni could do the same for him as he did for nash”, he gets a “yeah a little bit” or “i don’t see it” and no personal attacks. hell, we compare swings and mechanics of prospect and current players to those of the current or past stars in every sport, in entertainment, in singing voices, acting styles, writing styles, everything. it was such a nothing statement to have gotten the TBLA vitrol
G.Scott - February 12, 2012 via Android app
I wasn’t attacking his intelligence. If anything I was doing exactly the opposite. I was saying he seems like a smart guy (from what I can tell). I was just saying it was lunacy to compare Lin to Nash after 4 games.

yeah, their anti-social network episode had Sweet Dee and Mac trying to find this guy who shhed them at a bar on facebook, but when they tracked down the address, it was just a large black woman with multiple scam profiles, including one Sweet Dee had mailed her hair to

Josie Becker - February 12, 2012

underdog - February 12, 2012
The “shhshers” from that episode are my friends who live in Redondo Beach. They are also friends with the It’s Always Sunny cast. They were all sitting in a bar, presumably being loud, and someone shhed them. That’s how the cast came up with the episode idea, and then they let my friends be in the episode even though they are clearly not actors.

some people on Silver Screen saying he isn't clutch--this year. I say they can suck it.
Who else on Lakers would you rather have the ball at the end than Kobe?
Plus he played clutch defense.
And also that Raptor player took more than 6 seconds before they tried to call time out. can’t believe they were even arguing that f-up. Anyway, whew.
underdog - February 12, 2012
his clutch muscle must be injured
Josie Becker - February 12, 2012
Ask yourself this question:
As the Lakers, would you rather be down 1 with the ball and 12 seconds on the clock or up 1 and they have the ball with 12 seconds left?
If it’s the first one, then you still have faith in Kobe Bryant.
G.Scott - February 12, 2012
You can still have faith in Kobe Bryant and not be stupid.
Anyone would take the lead in that scenario.
Eric Stephen - February 12, 2012
but if you’re going to say he’s not clutch, then you don’t want him to have the ball. Personally, even from a fan’s perspective, I want the ball in his hands. It’s Kobe MF Bryant. The most entertaining scenario possible isn’t “I wonder if they can get a stop”, it’s “let’s see what Kobe comes up with”.
G.Scott - February 12, 2012
Most entertaining doesn’t necessarily equal most wins.

Part of the big reason the Raptors come back from 18 down
Misses Six in a Row
Down by Four
Hits Three pointer
Steals ball, goes full court, dish back to MWP for the layup and the lead
Toronto scores up by one
Kobe takes the inbound nails baseline jumper for one point lead with 4 seconds
Toronto takes a five second call
Game over

Jeremy Lin is why the Lakers should be giving Goudelock lots of playing time
I’m not saying he’ll go nuts but the Lakers have not even attempted to develop a young player besides Bynum for years…give it a chance. Lakers should be looking at small forward if they want to make a trade to positively impact the ability of this team to score.
BaldBilly - February 12, 2012
I would
Argue the lakers are not in the business of developing players. Also, on a Kobe Bryant dominant team, no other perimeter player is going to have a free reign.
bhsportsguy - February 12, 2012 via iPhone app
you would be right...
…but I would argue Phil Jackson was not in the business of developing players as opposed to the Lakers not developing them. Everyone (including Kobe) knows that Kobe leading the league in scoring has never equalled the Lakers getting a ring.
BaldBilly - February 12, 2012
Kobe

uschris0304 - February 12, 2012
There is never time to develop
Players on the Lakers. Name the last contributor to a title contending Laker team who was developed. Partially due to having only two lottery picks in the last 20 years and generally having a superstar level on the team, the Lakers don’t have a history of letting young players play to learn how to play in the league. One could argue that only Bynum fits that model, Kobe didn’t start his first two years in the league but wasn’t considered a project either.
bhsportsguy - February 12, 2012
Byron Scott?
just tossing out one example…
underdog - February 12, 2012
Byron
Started immediately, he was the 4th overall pick in the 1983 draft and he was traded for Norm Nixon. Sure, have young players stepped in (Worthy, Scott, Green) but they were not 2nd round hopefuls.
bhsportsguy - February 12, 2012
Right, but was just looking for example of player they drafted and let play
from the start. But yeah he was a very high pick, so not quite the same of players needing to develop more.
Hm maybe this will be year they have a decent draft pick again, if they finish middle of pack (very doubtful that they miss playoffs and get in lottery tho).

Taylor Maricle - February 12, 2012
More connected? Hahahaha
Maddz - February 12, 2012
Well
I figure Josie’s the type to make comments occasionally about who’s winning at the moment, so if she was in charge of both there’d be more exposure for the second league, i suppose.
Taylor Maricle - February 12, 2012
I’m sure we’d know who was winning in that league because they post here and whoever is winning/losing is going to have something to say about it.
Maddz - February 12, 2012
but then I’d have to make a second team. I can see what you mean, if I were to say do a weekly “State of the league” fanpost, and TBLA II wasn’t doing that, it might feel like one is the B league. However, there are plenty of excellent people in here who could start TBLA II, and it’s real easy to set up a league.

But seriously, he's really the one signing this off-season that I loathed
I mean I’ll root for him but just don’t get it at all. Sure Mark Ellis, not great at the plate at this point but at least he’ll contribute, gives them an infielder, can field really well. Kennedy became even more pointless after signing Ellis. Not that excited about most of the other signings either but at least you can explain them. Kennedy just seems pointless.
underdog - February 12, 2012
yeah
but he might be the most inconsequential. I mean they’re not really paying him anything.
Tommy Blackjack - February 12, 2012
yeah, what is it, 800 grand? In this day and age that's not much at all
but for a team in Dodgers situation still seems a waste. I mean just put IDJ or Sellers on the roster to do what Kennedy does (and maybe even better).
but yeah not worth fretting over too much.
underdog - February 12, 2012
opportunity cost is having a veteran in Kennedy vs a kid in either of those guys and all you save is $380k
G.Scott - February 12, 2012
You control the kid, can send him down anytime you want, and you don’t have to keep on paying him a major league contract.
You still have to waive Kennedy and pay the full amount of his contact.
Tripon - February 12, 2012
yeah that's kind of what I was getting at, but again, I don't think this is really worth being bothered about for very long
(Until I have to watch some AK at bats and then I may feel differently, mind.)
underdog - February 12, 2012
you’ll manage
G.Scott - February 12, 2012
Maybe Ned is trying to see what finally gets him fired.
But in all seriousness, its Ned just trying to add as much depth as possible. He’s been caught flatfooted by injuries(of other players he signed) the last couple of seasons, and he’s not going to let a farm system he can’t trust block him from contending.
Tripon - February 12, 2012
It's the Major League contract part
that makes no sense. I highly doubt there was a big market for this guy.
silverwidow - February 12, 2012
Ned likes to outbid himself, and quickly!
He’s like the guy on a blog that no one reads who insists on typing “First!” as the first comment anyway.
underdog - February 12, 2012
Yep
Kennedy should be making 150 grand to play in Albuquerque as insurance. That’s it.
silverwidow - February 12, 2012
He can put "First!" on his resume somewhere, as he dusts it off this summer.
underdog - February 12, 2012
Truly he is blocking other great Dodger middle infielders such as
regfairfield - February 12, 2012
hard to loathe a guaranteed contract of less than a million dollars
G.Scott - February 12, 2012
Still possible. If he’s cut within a month, its still flushing down a million down the drain. It’ll be like the Ortiz’s situation a couple of years ago.

Stuffed eggplant update (why not)
well, I think we have the wrong kind of eggplant, but truly, there is nothing that fresh mozz won’t fix.
Maddz - February 12, 2012
I am down with eggplant parmagiana though generally not a fan of Italian eggplant
I like Asian eggplants much more, the smaller ones (mmmm szechuan eggplant, thai basil eggplant…)
underdog - February 12, 2012
I use Japanese eggplants and panko bread crumbs in my baked eggplant Parmesan
it makes delicious little coins of crispy golden brown goodness – I tend not to cheese them these days, just spoon tomato sauce across the top
Hollywood Joe - February 12, 2012
Love
Japanese eggplant with miso.
bhsportsguy - February 12, 2012
make it into a pizza!
nolander - February 12, 2012
what kind of an eggplant are you using?
Hollywood Joe - February 12, 2012
Weeds from the garden after they chucked eggshells into the garden
Eric Stephen - February 12, 2012
the Pee Wee Herman method
Tommy Blackjack - February 12, 2012
bogstandard purple eggplant. Not the best for making a shell to stuff with.
we roasted the eggplant to soften the flesh (which kind of worked, will leave in longer next time). sauteed garlic, cumin, onions, tomato, and some left over veggie patties. added cooked flesh, let it reduce…added bread crumbs and egg, put it back into the eggplant, layered with fresh mozz and cooked for 35 minutes.
it was really good.
Maddz - February 12, 2012
you should always cook the flesh properly Clarice
sssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
Tommy Blackjack - February 12, 2012
alternatively
scoop out most of the flesh while raw – just leave enough flesh so walls of eggplant maintain shape
set aside shells
then roast or even boil eggplant flesh that you scooped out – mix with your spices as above or even a cooked ground meat / sausage – mix in cheese – top with bread crumbs
stuff shell and roast in oven

The Jennifer Hudson “I Will Always Love You” was pretty awesome.
Eric Stephen - February 12, 2012
Hell of a voice.
fbihop - February 12, 2012
An argument can be made now..
that Dave Grohl was the most talented musician in Nirvana.
I think he’s reached that status.
Joey Joe - February 12, 2012
Most importantly, he passed the “must be alive” part
Eric Stephen - February 12, 2012
he is more technically skilled sure
but does he “have anything to say” so to speak?
nolander - February 12, 2012
Everlong is my favorite song ever.
fbihop - February 12, 2012
It is my favorite Foo Fighters song, and definitely up there for me among overall songs. That is my favorite song to sing on Rock Band. :)
Eric Stephen - February 12, 2012
My problem with it on Rock Band is that it is impossible for the drummer to play it.
fbihop - February 12, 2012
Its a great song
I love his drumming for Queens of the Stone Age’s first album.
nolander - February 12, 2012
he can probably play the drums and guitar both better then Kobain could play the guitar
nolander - February 12, 2012
He wrote a bunch of Foo Fighers songs. Grohl definitely falls into the “pretty fucking awesome” category.
Eric Stephen - February 12, 2012
I in no way am saying he is a bad musician
he is a very good musician. Honestly I’m not sure it makes sense to compare the two, other then at one point they where in the same band.
nolander - February 12, 2012
I"m more speaking towards Kobain's
“message and artistic vision”, which is not really something I think of when I think of Grohl. They where/are great for different reasons.
nolander - February 12, 2012
if you are saying cobain created an entire genre
of this grunge alternative scene…and he helped commercialize it and make money doing it…then i can see how you could still argue that Cobain did more for music than Dave Grohl has (if you only view Dave as just a popular rock star…selling a bunch of records…but not really doing anything cutting edge musically)…
But, i think skill wise and creativity…dave is right there now with Cobain given his commercial success. I youtubed Virginia Moon with Norah Jones/Dave and was blown away at the range Dave Grohl has…to go from rocking to mellow and still having it sound great.
Joey Joe - February 12, 2012
Nirvana just popularized the scene in the Seattle era, they didn’t create it.
fbihop - February 12, 2012
and they hated being associated with it, though that seemed hipsteresque.

mleadman - February 12, 2012
cabain was trying to spread a message
grohl just wants to make hits. I’m simplifying, but its just not something that can be compared apples to apples.
nolander - February 12, 2012

i just dont think Kurt could surpass what Foo Fighters has evolved into
how many great bands (or members of bands) from the early 1990s are still rocking today and selling #1 records?
Joey Joe - February 12, 2012
This can be said of any band from any era 20 years after their peak. Great artists stay great, but hits are rare for a reason.
G.Scott - February 12, 2012
all I can think of is the hook from the new FF song
“I NEVER WANT TO DIE, I NEVER WANT TO DIE”
fuck that
Maddz - February 12, 2012
there's not many hit artists from the early 1990s
still selling #1 records in 2012…especially rock stars..
Jane’s Addiction?
Metallica?
Guns n Roses?
Pearl Jam
Those dudes are done..in terms of commercial success…

Eric Stephen - February 12, 2012
Right, but Dave Grohl isn’t doing the same thing he did in Nirvana (play drums). He’s a frontman now for a different band. That’s like saying that Chris Cornell has the same sustained success despite changing bands and radically changing sounds and then going solo.
Maddz - February 12, 2012
this is like saying aerosmith was the best band of their generation
Hollywood Joe - February 12, 2012
the musician in me is just so appalled right now
Maddz - February 12, 2012
This is really akin to saying that the Beach Boys are more successful than the Beatles because they performed at the Grammys tonight while only one dude from the Beatles did.
Rock bands are inherently instable, what with all the drug use and partying and having to spend lots and lots of time with each other. That the FF have been able to last so long is great in that in means they don’t absolutely hate each other and have allowed others to have side projects.
Maddz - February 12, 2012
this is like saying that Tony Bennet is better than Frank Sinatra
Hollywood Joe - February 12, 2012
Tony Bennett left is heart in San Francisco, while Frank Sinatra left his dick in Mia Farrow.

Eric Stephen - February 12, 2012
even if you include guys with new bands..
Scott Weiland? – not much of a rock star anymore despite changing bands.
Tommy Lee – same
Dave Grohl is a special musician and his commercial success confirms it. He’s in the the very very top of the rock star business…so much so that I dont think Cobain would have eclipsed it…
If you’re talking rock stars with longevity…maybe Dave Mathewes still has it but i wouldnt consider him rock..and he hasnt been around quite as long as Dave Grohl.
Joey Joe - February 12, 2012
so, you’re a Dave Grohl fan. That’s cool.
G.Scott - February 12, 2012
I like him, he’s the best because other people like him too
I am like everyone else and we all like the same
this is probably a fact I think
Hollywood Joe - February 12, 2012

Maddz - February 12, 2012

this is why its subjective, we disagree on the base criteria

Phil Gurnee - February 12, 2012
yes, yes we did
Maddz - February 12, 2012
all of his success post nirvana
Since Kurt’s dead its difficult to imagine how much more he would have accomplished had he stayed alive, but i doubt it’d be better than what Foo Fighters is.
Foo Fighters is probably the most popular current rock band in the world, and they’ve been on top for say 5-7 years IMO.
Joey Joe - February 12, 2012
sigh
I am apparently incapable of expressing myself in a way that people will understand what I am trying to say.
nolander - February 12, 2012
if you are just comparing their skills as musicians...
then i guess its hard to compare anyone because most accomplished musicians can play anything.
i was more talking about the success and level of rock star-ness..
Dave Grohl has gotten out of the “just the drummer from nirvana” shell that he started out in.
Joey Joe - February 12, 2012
I got you Nolander
Hollywood Joe - February 12, 2012
is NCIS the best show on television?
its the most popular show on TV. Nirvana and Foo Fighters where both huge, one of them just so happened to have their lead singer kill themselves. Grohl is a great musician, and nows how to make music that will get played nonstop all the time on the radio and is technically a very skilled musician. Kurt Cobain had more artistic vision. Comparing them kind of feels like comparing Batman and Spider man, they are both great, different people with different tastes will like one better then he other for totally valid reasons. It can be fun, but you’ll just end up going in circles.
nolander - February 12, 2012
Nirvana was overrated. THERE, I SAID IT.

IMO, commercial success proves value with the converse being true as well…if nobody likes or buys your renditions, then what are you really accomplishing? whats subjective about who sells the most records?
I assume people buy music because it is pleasing to their ears. They enjoy listening to it.

I’m high on Dave Grohl; the Grohl > Mr. Love debate is at least plausible on some level.
I was trying to make a sports analogy, and the best I could come up with was Gale Sayers and Mike Ditka. Both teammates on the Bears, but Sayers had the amazing peak and was done early, while Ditka played longer and accumulated more. Not sure peak vs. career can be applied to music, but I enjoyed the exercise.

I guess that does kind of make him a winner though
nolander - February 12, 2012
Inevitably this will devolve into noting that James Loney and Juan Pierre were very popular among Dodgers fans for years. In Loney’s case, he still is.
Eric Stephen - February 12, 2012
loney and pierre had bad stats
Dave Grohl’s stats of highest selling records means he’s the best
Joey Joe - February 12, 2012
This is a tastes and preferences thing that will never be solved.
A quick perusal of the TV ratings in any given week is a reminder that people as a whole are pretty stupid.
Eric Stephen - February 12, 2012
no u
nolander - February 12, 2012
This would be true
if Cobain hadn’t been in the band
mleadman - February 12, 2012
marty is always correct (except when it comes to the Doors)
Hollywood Joe - February 12, 2012
One said Dude, one said Sweet.
G.Scott - February 12, 2012
I would expect Josie
To complain that the music to bring out the two NY Giants, who awarded the rock performance award, was the CBS NFL music.
bhsportsguy - February 12, 2012
on the contrary, I liked the historical nod. To hell with FOX : )
Josie Becker - February 12, 2012
I would prefer something NFL Filmsier
nolander - February 12, 2012
neither here nor there but
Spongebob uses NFL Films music
Josie Becker - February 12, 2012
Ryan
Seacrest is so big he gets two introductions.
bhsportsguy - February 12, 2012
Last time
I saw the Beach Boys was after a USC football game. 90s I believe.
bhsportsguy - February 12, 2012
Glen Campbell
Was a session guitar player for the Beach Boys
bhsportsguy - February 12, 2012
He also took over on tour for Brian Wilson for six months.
A reporter I know said he saw the Glen-Campbell-led Beach Boys on tour, he thinks it was the Help Me Rhonda tour.
fbihop - February 12, 2012
Stevie
Gets a standing Ovation
bhsportsguy - February 12, 2012
If
I never hear that song that Paul McCartney sang, I will be very happy.
bhsportsguy - February 12, 2012
does this mean you are not very happy
nolander - February 12, 2012
No
I doubt I will hear that sappy ballad again,
bhsportsguy - February 12, 2012
El
DeBarge still makes records?
bhsportsguy - February 12, 2012
Fact
HJ used to play pickup hoops with El DeBarge at Granada Hills Rec Center (Petit Park) back in the 80’s.
Hollywood Joe - February 12, 2012
Fact
Tony Kledis was not the most popular kid in our junior high school. He can buy and sell all of us now.
bhsportsguy - February 12, 2012
YOU WENT TO MIDDLE SCHOOL WITH ANTHONY KIEDIS?
Maddz - February 12, 2012
and boom
Red Hot Chili Peppers – band from the 1990s still rocking and making #1 hits
Maddz - February 12, 2012
I saw them in 1984
mleadman - February 12, 2012
EVEN BETTER
Maddz - February 12, 2012
At a converted restaurant in Azusa. Back when they came on stage wearing nothing but socks over their dicks
mleadman - February 12, 2012
You missed a golden opportunity to rhyme there
The Dude Abides - February 12, 2012
was just going to say, I saw them in the 80’s
we be old
Hollywood Joe - February 12, 2012
didn't no doubt just get back together or something?
nolander - February 12, 2012
Usher isn’t rock, but he’s still pumping out hits
G.Scott - February 12, 2012
weezer is still killing it
and by killing it I mean their last few albums have been horrible and I hate what they have become
nolander - February 12, 2012
weezer is a good one
maybe green day i guess
Joey Joe - February 12, 2012
American Idiot might be their best selling album
nolander - February 12, 2012
I saw Green Day on the back of a southwest airlines flight from San Jose
I gave them the cool guy nod
Hollywood Joe - February 12, 2012
"get a load of this guy!"
nolander - February 12, 2012
is how I imagine them reacting to you
not how I reacted to your comment
nolander - February 12, 2012
Joe was in aisle 26, they were on the rudder
G.Scott - February 12, 2012
I was joking on the cool guy nod
I was punk rock and flipped them off
Hollywood Joe - February 12, 2012
"get a load of this guy!"
nolander - February 12, 2012
Chilis played with Pearl Jam and Nirvana before any of them had a major album. Good times.
Josie Becker - February 12, 2012
they toured as the Awesome Blossoms then.
G.Scott - February 12, 2012
I had a non kissing girl date at Chili’s on Friday, you can get experimental stuff at the one in Torrance!
Josie Becker - February 12, 2012
put salt on the salt, deep fry it and dip it in chipotle mayo, and you’ve had every item on the menu at Chili’s.
G.Scott - February 12, 2012
we had rare steaks : )
Josie Becker - February 12, 2012
they grilled them in a skillet of chipotle butter
G.Scott - February 12, 2012
sometimes there is chipotle honey syrup
nolander - February 12, 2012
I forgot about the chipotle honey syrup.
G.Scott - February 12, 2012
Yeah
But he wasn’t a musician or singer, he was just kind of there.
bhsportsguy - February 12, 2012
I believe that
Maddz - February 12, 2012
Taylor Swift
Playing the banjo, not something I would expect from her.
bhsportsguy - February 12, 2012
I always figured that was a studio musician playing banjo on that track, but the girl is pretty awesome
Josie Becker - February 12, 2012
Someone needs to tell Stevie Wonder to let it go and just shave his head.
Though I guess he doesn’t know what he looks like.
fbihop - February 12, 2012
Now Coldplay
that is a band I can get behind hating
Hollywood Joe - February 12, 2012
I don't see them as worth hating
unless they are huge assholes and I just didn’t know it.
nolander - February 12, 2012
they work out
G.Scott - February 12, 2012
I really enjoyed Coldplay’s first couple of albums and haven’t heard enough of their new stuff to comment
Maddz - February 12, 2012
they got sued for intellectual property theft on the last album
Josie Becker - February 12, 2012
they are boring
Hollywood Joe - February 12, 2012
was a LMFAO reference, my bad.
I’m also not a Cold Play fan. Their music is great if you need help falling asleep, but even then, there are a hundred artists I’d rather fall asleep to. Like Santo & Johnny.
G.Scott - February 12, 2012
boring is not worth hating
I don’t find their first couple albums boring, but they tried top become more boisterous and lost their charm imho.
nolander - February 12, 2012
I hate them
they sound like really bad U2 and some other shit mixed in
I hate them
Hollywood Joe - February 12, 2012
you must be referring to their newer stuff
nolander - February 12, 2012
I saw them at a KCRW concert a long time passed
I dont know a thing they are up to since
Hollywood Joe - February 12, 2012
saw them @ Coachella 2005
This was right before they hit critical mass. They put on a great show, considering the circumstances of it being a festival and all.
ishXdavid - February 12, 2012
if Coachella is anything like Stagecoach, it’s less a concert, and more like watching the Grammys on a big TV while you’re really drunk and I’m throwing dirt at you
Josie Becker - February 12, 2012
Coachella back then was a lot different than it is now. I haven’t been since they went to the 3-day format. Are you going to Stagecoach this year? I wasn’t able to get any camping tickets this year. I camped in the RV parking last year, and it was an all-day tailgate. I imagine it’s similar to SEC tailgating and NASCAR events. I’ll have to find out one day before I die.
ishXdavid - February 12, 2012
not this year. I went last year as a member of the press™ but I haven’t written on that blog in a dog’s age
Josie Becker - February 12, 2012
MLBN......wha?
how is Miguel Cabrera the best 3rd baseman right now when he hasn’t played the position in years?
Tommy Blackjack - February 12, 2012
name two you’d rather have.
G.Scott - February 12, 2012
Longoria and Zimmerman
:P
Tommy Blackjack - February 12, 2012
name three you’d rather have.
G.Scott - February 12, 2012
now i'm torn
do I say Beltre? or Lawrie?
Tommy Blackjack - February 12, 2012
see, Cabrera for #3.
G.Scott - February 12, 2012
then clearly
WE MUST KUNG FU FIGHT!!
Tommy Blackjack - February 12, 2012
because he can hit better then any other 3rd baseman in baseball
nolander - February 12, 2012
we’ll see
/Zen Master
Tommy Blackjack - February 12, 2012
nice
G.Scott - February 12, 2012
Surprised so many are watching the Tape Delay awards
I went with Once Upon a Time, personally
Josie Becker - February 12, 2012
did NBC still manage to “accidentally” get higher ratings and scramble the feed too late?
G.Scott - February 12, 2012
It
Is on CBS
bhsportsguy - February 12, 2012
I have no cable, I make assumptions.
G.Scott - February 12, 2012
neither of those stations are on cable
Tommy Blackjack - February 12, 2012

nolander - February 12, 2012

DTV+rabbit ears=happy Josie
Josie Becker - February 12, 2012
that works
I mean my 10 dollar rabbit ears get great signal. I also threw in an epic tv tuner so I can record everything on my computer to watch later.
nolander - February 12, 2012
when I’ve got a steady income, I might invest in a tivo, but I’m pretty committed to cutting the cord
Josie Becker - February 12, 2012
Pretty much
Outside of the NFL, in a few years almost all regular season and post season college sports and pro sports will be on cable.
bhsportsguy - February 12, 2012
I sincerely hope
I’ll be too busy working to notice the games I’m missing
Josie Becker - February 12, 2012
I finally watched Smash. I actually liked it
mleadman - February 12, 2012
so did the rest of america actually
BEST TV SHOW EVER
Maddz - February 12, 2012
It’s about the Incredible Hulk, right?
Eric Stephen - February 12, 2012
in that some of the bears are yoked
Josie Becker - February 12, 2012
I have to find a way to balance Smash with Nathan Fillion drool time
Josie Becker - February 12, 2012
Maddz made me watch Dr. Horribles. I enjoyed it.
G.Scott - February 12, 2012
Had a good giggle over the bat labeled “hammer” yesterday : )
Josie Becker - February 12, 2012
I am not the demographic
I hate Glee. I hate Idol and those shows, but I liked this
mleadman - February 12, 2012
you must watch the Voice
CEE LO HAS A CAT
Maddz - February 12, 2012
THE CAT’S NAME IS PURRFECT. C’MON
Maddz - February 12, 2012
Haha
Eric Stephen - February 12, 2012
I think you’d get a crack out of The Voice.
G.Scott - February 12, 2012
I really didn't like the way it was shot
or how they mixed the colors or w/e. I get they are trying to make it look.. “older”, but it just didn’t work for me when everything is still in modern times.
nolander - February 12, 2012
you mean…using film?
Josie Becker - February 12, 2012
everything looked washed out to me during the day scenes
or something. I don’t know words good talk film.
nolander - February 12, 2012
Technically it's a film simulating digital camera
But you’re right in that it makes things look…old fashioned-y. Pan Am and Playboy Club both use the camera, as well as Once Upon a Time and Homeland.
The 2D version of the Avengers film was also show with it…oh and Fringe S4.
Josie Becker - February 12, 2012
finally watched captain america
alls et for the avengers now. First half was a well done origin story… then it became one long montage.
nolander - February 12, 2012
the ending was unsatisfying, but it did what it [spoilers, OMG spoilers]
Josie Becker - February 12, 2012
yeah it did what it needed to
I am excite
nolander - February 12, 2012
Also,
The TBLA Fantasy League post has been updated with the draft order
Josie Becker - February 12, 2012
HOW DID YOU KNOW WHAT MY TEAM NAME WAS
do you weigh more then a duck?
nolander - February 12, 2012
first I thought I was 2nd
now I realize i’m 2nd to last. Shit. Now I"ll have to think fast for my 2nd pick
nolander - February 12, 2012
Well that was no fun..
G.Scott - February 12, 2012
as soon as Yahoo gave the list I thought, “wow that sucks. and it was his idea too”
Josie Becker - February 12, 2012
yeah, I’m gonna get first round pick Curtis Granderson now.
I should’ve kept my mouth shut
G.Scott - February 12, 2012
I hope Dave Young enjoys his shinny new Matt Kemp
Josie Becker - February 12, 2012
I really am in that “I’m gonna draft whoever is left” land that no one likes, and nolander will like it even less.
G.Scott - February 12, 2012
but at least we all know where we stand, and not finding out a half hour before.
Josie Becker - February 12, 2012
I'm going to go ahead and tell myself that this way I get two epic players
instead of one epic player
nolander - February 12, 2012
in a non-Dodgers league, you’d probably get Kershaw.
My money on taking Kershaw is either Bobby Down or Taylor Maricle.
G.Scott - February 12, 2012
I might.
I’m new to this format, since i’ve only ever played MLB.com’s leagues where instead of individual pitchers you just draft an entire team’s pitching staff, which simplified things.
Taylor Maricle - February 13, 2012
Just got back from Mountain High
My body hates me.
ishXdavid - February 12, 2012
I went snowboarding for the first time ever wednsday
with my binds set to straight and inwards, which is apparently bad. I fell a few times.
nolander - February 12, 2012
aww i miss skiing
Maddz - February 12, 2012
Forgive me
But I totally misread the final word as “kissing.”
Eric Stephen - February 12, 2012
I just got a pop up ad
are you fucking serious sbnation?
nolander - February 12, 2012
was it an ad for a Foo Fighters album
Hollywood Joe - February 12, 2012
hah
if that had actually happened I would have simply applauded them and went about my business
nolander - February 12, 2012
Haha.
What was the ad for?
Eric Stephen - February 12, 2012
some survey
I just hate pop up ads so much. Hell it wasn’t even that big. I’m just a bitch of a jackass
nolander - February 12, 2012
It might not be sbnation fault. You have might spamware installed on your computer. Get spybot or something to do a check up and clean up your system.
Tripon - February 12, 2012
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Maddz - February 12, 2012
this is probably the best act of trolling i have ever seen in my life
Maddz - February 12, 2012
If I listen to david Grohl's probot it will have the same effect right?
RED WAR
nolander - February 12, 2012
Beach Boys, just stole what Jan and Dean were doing and commercialized it, probably I think
Hollywood Joe - February 12, 2012
Did it better which counts
Phil Gurnee - February 12, 2012
I was just fucking with the ball Phil
Hollywood Joe - February 12, 2012
Good Vibrations is one of top five all time songs. Has everything you could want. I can understand why it blew Brian’s mind.
Phil Gurnee - February 12, 2012
ooooooooooooooo
nolander - February 12, 2012
Are you sure you have that in the right order? Jan and Dean did several songs that Brian Wilson wrote.
iiidown - February 13, 2012
I wonder
How Adele sounds with no microphone
bhsportsguy - February 12, 2012
I saw her at the Hollywood Bowl
I am a fan
Hollywood Joe - February 12, 2012
Adele is not selling skinny Jeans, and that is apparently horrible.
Tripon - February 12, 2012
While too young for me, I think she got some sexy going on
Hollywood Joe - February 12, 2012
I had no idea what she looked like until tonight. Awesome voice.
Eric Stephen - February 12, 2012
she looks like Wynonna Judd
G.Scott - February 12, 2012
not always - before she got sick
Hollywood Joe - February 12, 2012
similar!
G.Scott - February 12, 2012
with that much makeup how can you tell anything
nolander - February 12, 2012
Who is Grim Death on the left?
Eric Stephen - February 12, 2012
Mickey Rourke
G.Scott - February 12, 2012
Karl Lagerfeld, who said that Adele is too fat to model for him for some reason.
Tripon - February 12, 2012
the hits keep coming
Karl Lagerfeld is pretty well known for hating women who aren’t shaped like twigs
Maddz - February 12, 2012
It’s understandable that such a hunk of a man would only want the choicest…I can’t even complete the sentence.
Eric Stephen - February 12, 2012
was his last name Brown?
G.Scott - February 12, 2012
nice callback
Eric Stephen - February 12, 2012
Nothing is as cute as a cat sneeze
shut up Eric
Hollywood Joe - February 12, 2012
everytime I ask my dog to sit she sneezes instead
nolander - February 12, 2012
This is
What I thought country music was about growing up, Gentle on my mind.
bhsportsguy - February 12, 2012
I liked the Civil Wars a little bit
not sure, but my ears wanted more
Hollywood Joe - February 12, 2012
Yes, also nice laugh and legs. And sweet voice
Phil Gurnee - February 12, 2012
Phil like women
Hollywood Joe - February 12, 2012
speaking of music
bastion had an amazing musical soundtrack to go along wtih the great narration. Just pure ear bliss for 5-6 hours.
nolander - February 12, 2012
hahaha, holy shit, that Jason Whitlock tweet about Jeremy Lin a couple of days ago was real?
Tripon - February 12, 2012
the racist one?
Josie Becker - February 12, 2012
Yeah. I thought it was made up by a troll. I know Whitlock likes to push things, but thought no way he would publish that.
Tripon - February 12, 2012
in his apology
he said he always wanted to be a standup comic (true story!)
Josie Becker - February 12, 2012
this is reason #976 why I don’t tweet
Hollywood Joe - February 12, 2012
my reason #1
“I don’t want someone to call the men in white coats on me”
Tommy Blackjack - February 12, 2012
yes
Eric Stephen - February 12, 2012
what’d he say?
Tommy Blackjack - February 12, 2012
Read it on SBNation!

The
Interesting thing is that Tony Bennent sounds like he did 40 years ago.
bhsportsguy - February 12, 2012
I saw him in Vegas when I was in my early 20’s
it was a weekend
Hollywood Joe - February 12, 2012

G.Scott - February 12, 2012
going to Knott's Berry Farm tomorrow
i’m excited, haven’t been there in a long time.
Tommy Blackjack - February 12, 2012
Pan for gold bro
Hollywood Joe - February 12, 2012
I have never met anyone who actually had jam at Knott’s.
Tripon - February 12, 2012
if you’ve never met someone, who went to Knott’s and had funnel cake with jam and powdered sugar, then you haven’t met me
Josie Becker - February 12, 2012
nor me
G.Scott - February 12, 2012
You have met me.
Eric Stephen - February 12, 2012
We
bhsportsguy - February 12, 2012
Used
To go to Fried Chicken dinner place there and have chicken with biscuits wit boysenberry preserves.
bhsportsguy - February 12, 2012
one of these days, I am going to say the hell with it and make me a mess of fried chicken and biscuits
Hollywood Joe - February 12, 2012
After watching The Help its on my list to do
biscuits are really not hard, just messy.
nolander - February 12, 2012
after watching The Help, I’ve started using crisco to fry things. This won’t end well
Josie Becker - February 12, 2012
we really need to teach you how to run, then, or that crisco is going straight to your hips
Maddz - February 12, 2012
I’m a fantastic walker : )
Josie Becker - February 12, 2012
I have some in my cupboard
I don’t remember what I bought it for. I remember my mom cooking with crisco as a kid.
nolander - February 12, 2012
or thats right, to cook tortillas in before putting meet in them and covering them with sauce and cheese
nolander - February 12, 2012
my aunt from New Mexico uses Crisco instead of butter in her cookies.
hardest cookies I’ve ever eaten.
G.Scott - February 12, 2012
hardtack, those aint cookies, they are hardtack
Hollywood Joe - February 12, 2012
but delicious?
I made a “cake” today with beans and stevia and coconut oil instead of flower sugar and butter. It was not terrible.
nolander - February 12, 2012
I read that as beans and sativa
Josie Becker - February 12, 2012
haha
hey dad come take a hit of your birthday cake!
nolander - February 12, 2012
flavor is similar as a cookie, but hard to get passed the texture.
G.Scott - February 12, 2012
I make an awesome biscuit with curdled heavy cream
I was a recipe tester on this book and learned the recipe there
Hollywood Joe - February 12, 2012
I'm going to come clean and admit I use bisquick to make my biscuits
/ducks
nolander - February 12, 2012
do you use spuds to make mashed potatoes?
Josie Becker - February 12, 2012
I seriously never make mashed potatoes
I just take some russet or red potatoes chop em up and saute them. Or boil /bake them and have them whole
nolander - February 12, 2012
they are good, just not the best
and I don’t care how many fucking boxes of that shit they sell
Hollywood Joe - February 12, 2012
The Bisquick coffee cake was my fav, may have to make another one, been about five years since I’ve done so.
Phil Gurnee - February 12, 2012
the consensus seems to be the Fried Chicken place isn’t as good as it used to be, but I never went as a kid, and I enjoyed it much as an adult
Josie Becker - February 12, 2012
I will probably never go again, that way it will remain holy in my mind
Midnight Cowboy is one hell of a movie
Hollywood Joe - February 12, 2012
Soy Cowboy is an interesting nightclub in Bangkok
Josie Becker - February 12, 2012
Soi Cowboy is actually a whole neighborhood
And known for its nightlife. But I’ve never been there, I only read about it on the internet :)
The Dude Abides - February 12, 2012
“I have never asked anyone if they’ve tried the jam at Knott’s Berry Farm”
G.Scott - February 12, 2012
nice
Hollywood Joe - February 12, 2012
That’s usually one of my top three icebreakers, only slightly revised. I ask “Do you have any jam from Knott’s Berry Farm?”
And if they do I pull out the toast from my pocket.
Eric Stephen - February 12, 2012
oww, my sore obliques : )

oh Scoops Callahan. His shtick is hard for me to watch, cause I don’t like things like X and Punked where not everyone is in on the joke
Josie Becker - February 12, 2012
I feel ya
I do enjoy how manning is completely unfazed, and Mack Brown actually seems to be able to decipher what he is saying.
nolander - February 12, 2012
Mack Brown was definitely the best
Josie Becker - February 12, 2012
wife beater
Hollywood Joe - February 12, 2012
his wife went to Cal, watch your tongue
Josie Becker - February 12, 2012
how do you even know this
nolander - February 12, 2012
because Cal played Texas in the Holiday Bowl and it came up
Josie Becker - February 12, 2012
so…she..deser..v…what?
Maddz - February 12, 2012
Chris Brown is the wife beater, so this whole thread is just weird
Josie Becker - February 12, 2012
oh I think hj is just riffing on an earlier discussion
on browns having a stranglehold on famous wife beaters.
nolander - February 12, 2012
no, that fucker beat his
nevermind
oh no, not that again
Hollywood Joe - February 12, 2012
I thought we established everyone named Brown was.
Let’s just say those aren’t freckles on Peppermint Pattie.
Eric Stephen - February 12, 2012
working hard for the money
Hollywood Joe - February 12, 2012
this was my other question
nolander - February 12, 2012
old wife beater
nolander - February 12, 2012
Things I never thought I would hear Josie say.
Eric Stephen - February 12, 2012
Hey man, Texas Forever
and now I’m banned.
Josie Becker - February 12, 2012
It is odd to think that the most productive player from that game may be Reggie Bush. Since both Young and Lienart are back up QBs now.
Tripon - February 12, 2012
Huff?
but yeah Bush had a good year last year I have to lay off that fucker for a bit
nolander - February 12, 2012
I used to, but found out glue really fucks you up
Hollywood Joe - February 12, 2012
Picked the wrong week
Eric Stephen - February 12, 2012

G.Scott - February 12, 2012

nolander - February 12, 2012

nolander - February 12, 2012
Michael Huff is still starting for the Raiders
Josie Becker - February 12, 2012

and he played really well/good last year. Not sure about this year
nolander - February 12, 2012
Had a so/so year, but might have been scheme related.
Eric Stephen - February 12, 2012
Does anyone know a good soccer writer? I need someone to write about the Galaxy for SB Nation LA.
Eric Stephen - February 12, 2012
Remember how cool it was before Josie died in that terrible and tragic accident?
Eric Stephen - February 12, 2012
I’m not dead. I’m getting better : )
Josie Becker - February 12, 2012
I'm a little weirded out right now
nolander - February 12, 2012
what does “right now” got to do with it?
Hollywood Joe - February 12, 2012
Well, right now there’s no tomorrow
Eric Stephen - February 12, 2012
WTF?
The lyric is “It’s your tomorrow?”
I have been living a lie.
Eric Stephen - February 12, 2012

nolander - February 12, 2012
Right now, it’s everything
Eric Stephen - February 12, 2012
“look at this guy”
Eric Stephen - February 12, 2012
I enjoyed the Grammy’s. Chris Brown looks like a douche. But he can dance.
Phil Gurnee - February 12, 2012
he can dance
but his music makes me want to shove a pencil in my eye so that the pain will distract me from the sound
Hollywood Joe - February 12, 2012
For the record,
As someone celebrating a half century on this planet (yeah me and Dodger Stadium), nothing is as good, inexpensive or as fun as it used to be. So keep moving forward, meet new folks, and make new and greater memories.
bhsportsguy - February 12, 2012
I wish I was drinking right now
Hollywood Joe - February 12, 2012
I wish I was getting work done

nolander - February 12, 2012
I
Am drinking a beer brewed by a friend of mine. And I thought the above comment was life affirming. See what I know, I guess I should be more like Dave Grohl and give the people what they want.
bhsportsguy - February 12, 2012
ROCK STAR
and I heard you the whole damn time
Hollywood Joe - February 12, 2012
ditto.
G.Scott - February 12, 2012
I plan on making new folds meeting new and greater mormires
while makiing forward
nolander - February 12, 2012

Maddz - February 12, 2012
spell checking is for the birds
I have a weird feeling that someone is going to tell me that saying is obscurely sexist ala rule of thumb
nolander - February 12, 2012
I wrote about it in my diary
Hollywood Joe - February 12, 2012
shit man diaries are for ladies
ya gotta get a journal like a man and hit up a blunt while hating taco trucks.
I’m trying to figure out what chris would say, and I really don’t know why.
nolander - February 12, 2012

Hollywood Joe - February 12, 2012

nolander - February 12, 2012
wow thats depressing
;)
but i agree…sometimes you kind of know you’ve already hit the “it’ll never be better than that” stage..
Joey Joe - February 12, 2012
everyone ever has said this about the years they have lived that are now too far away to remember why they sucked, but near enough that they still remember why they were worth living.
G.Scott - February 12, 2012
except kurt cobain
nolander - February 12, 2012
he thinks Dave Grohl is a sellout
G.Scott - February 12, 2012
he though his parents entire generation where sellouts
I don’t think he has a low bar for that judgment
nolander - February 12, 2012
my life has been different, but mostly never better
Hollywood Joe - February 12, 2012
i'm already bored at 31
i probably think more about the past than the future even now – just because i feel like i’ve already done everything i wanted or conceived of doing.
Joey Joe - February 12, 2012

G.Scott - February 12, 2012

What Dickens novel does that quote most remind you of?
Hollywood Joe - February 12, 2012
On TBLA
Never ever bring up the Texas vs. USC game. At least, not when Eric is around.
bhsportsguy - February 12, 2012
it works (at getting Eric’s goat) better than Cal beating USC in 2003 costing them the unanimous championship
Josie Becker - February 12, 2012
National championships are funny though. I will gladly enjoy the AP title and claim it as though it were a biological son or daughter and not an adopted one.
Eric Stephen - February 12, 2012
Cal beating
Snyone rarely gets to anyone’s goat
bhsportsguy - February 12, 2012
Huh
Jane Curtin is on another series,
bhsportsguy - February 12, 2012

Hollywood Joe - February 12, 2012
Top 3 lines to get a date for Valentines Day
1. My father played for the Astros.
2. Ever have jam at Knott’s Berry Farm?
3. How do you tell your barber you have to break up?
BTW-I asked the woman who has been cutting my hair for over a decade about the last one and she said there is no good way and she expects no explanation when a client stops showing up.
bhsportsguy - February 12, 2012

Hollywood Joe - February 12, 2012
Too bad there isn’t a city named Billy Ray.
Eric Stephen - February 12, 2012
You should have followed her answer up, with “I’m sorry but I’m going somewhere else for my head jobs.”.
