Mike, Albert, Naeem chime in here if you plan on going. You paid but you did not respond to the email I sent out. So either you gave a bogus email, I typed it in wrong, the email went directly to your spam filter, or you simply did not reply.
We want to carpool as much as possible to not only save gas but for camaraderie sakes since spending eight hours together is not enough, might as well add a few hours of car time. Going to the game we can talk about how stupid the manager is going to be, and on the way home we can talk about how stupid the manager was.
People who have volunteered to carpool are:
Joe - seats 4 - Hollywood
David - seats 4 - NorthWest San Fernando Valley
Phil - seats 4 West San Fernando Valley
From what I understand Josh (Deliasman) is picking up Josie so they are covered.
Josh Schoenwald lives on the Westside and would like to carpool. I'd suggest he contact HJ who is in Hollywood. Matthew also resides on the Westside. So that looks like a good match.
I'd suggest Bobby drive with me.
I'd suggest David pickup Maddz and Gary unless they want to drive themselves.
AJ lives in SB and would be welcome to carpool with me but I think he's leaving later and I'll be leaving at a time that will get me to the park by 07:30AM or sooner.
This is the extent of my suggestions. Use the comments to make arrangements.

I'd suggest you hardball players check out the rulebook, many things you do in hardball will not play in softball.
It looks like we are using a 3, -1 Home run rule. Which means that only 3 home runs per team per game will be allowed, and only one home run more then the other team. Any other home runs would be considered outs. I don't anticipate that being a problem for us.

Entrance Fees
- Patrons 13 years and older pay $3.00 upon entry and will receive a token worth $1.00.
- Children 12 and under participating in a sport pay $1.00 upon entry and will receive a token worth $1.00
- The token is redeemable at the park stadium club restaurant or concession stand
Guidelines
- If you leave the park, and plan to return the same day, please get a hand stamp for re-entry.
- NO FOOD, BEVERAGES, or ICE CHESTS/COOLERS may be brought into the park.
- NO Overnight Recreation Vehicle parking is allowed at any Big League Dreams Facility.
- Spectators 12 and under are admitted FREE!
- Alcoholic beverages are NOT permitted to be consumed in the parking lot area at any time.
Hopefully it will be a full days worth of five or six games and not the three game minimum.

Yes, they do this in the “real softball” tournaments because those teams could have 3 or 4 five people who routinely hit out of park home runs. I am surprised they are using this for our tournament unless each team has some serious ringers.
I played in one tournament at the Palms Springs Dream Fields where whoever hit the first out of park home run was the only one allowed to do it for the rest of the game. We had two guys who could do it with ease, we were told in no uncertain terms that if any of us jacked one out before they got up, they would kick our ass from here to Tupelo.

Leaving the base
before the ball is hit or strikes the ground will be the one rule that I will have trouble getting use to. I’ve never seen this one for slow pitch before. Usually you leave the base when the pitcher releases the ball (no stealing of course) and it is a force out back at the base. You’d be amazed at how many force outs you see at first base on this. Runner not expecting batter to swing and miss so he takes a big jump off the bag, then whiff/pow and you are out on a force out if not back in time. Also see a lot of players doubled up on infield line drives. Shouldn’t see too much of that with this rule.

That rule is exactly how the LA City Leagues play, or at least did back when I was playing. Since there is no stealing, there really is no point in leaving the bag if the batter doesn’t swing. With 60 foot base paths, there can still be doubling up on line drives, in fact, sometimes it is easier, the runner just started accelerating on contact and didn’t start slowing down to see if the liner is going through so it is actually harder for him to go back.

Right, in Culver City we played like Xeifrank, but in Santa Monica and the San Fernando Valley it was the LA City League rules.

I wouldn’t like that LA City rule. Some times with a big pull hitter up you don’t want to be standing on the base (think target practice). When the pitch is released you head in to foul territory where it is much safer. I know of a couple of people that I play with, that I would not want to be standing on third base when contact was made with the ball.

I agree, plus it took all the fun out of catching and base running because you could not nail the runner who strayed, while the runner tries to get huge leads. As a manager it was maddening when our players did not get off the base.

I think LA City to ease the burden of the single umpire. Hard to see if runners leave before the ball leaves the pitchers hand while you need to watch the flight of the ball to gauge arc then eventually call the ball/strike.

I like it better like that. The offense already has a huge advantage (it’s slow pitch softball for crissakes!) no need to give them an advantage in being able to lead off. In the city leagues I play in (Torrance and Redondo) we are able to lead off. When I played intramurals in college we could not lead off. In fact, you could not leave the base until contact was made, not when the ball hit the ground. So you’d see some guys get out because a batter would swing and miss, and the runner, expecting the ball to be hit, would step off the base, and get out.

Maddz and Gary are planning to head elsewhere after the games are over, so they are on their own.
Seems like Bobby could meet up with me – we’re just over the hill from one another – and we could pick up Phil at some place like the parking lot for the red line at Universal, and even pick up Joe in Hollywood or at that same location. At that early hour, blowing right through downtown on the 101, instead of skirting it on the 5, should be very do-able.

Substitution Rule
There was some mention on the TBLA site yesterday about a substitution rule and only X number of players being allowed to bat or play per game. Is that true? If so, where was that posted. I don’t see it on the LFP site.

it's in the USSSA rulebook. Can field 10 but bat up to 12.
However, I would ask the opposing team if it would be okay to just bat around if we have more than 12.
So when we (VSIMH #2) play you (DT) at 2 pm, do you want to just bat around? Would save some time and energy thinking about how we substitute out batters. I figure that planning the fielding subs is work enough.

I would prefer to play open substitutions on defense, with the one female in the field caveat in play of course, along with batting the whole team, or whoever wants to play once again following whatever female rule there is on batting. This whole thing is for charity and to make a logistical nightmare out of it adds some stress for the manager(s).

Looks like the weather will be overcast, drizzle, maybe even some showers.
I’d dress warm for the playoff game breaks.
Remember one tournament where it was a great day but then we made the playoffs and we were freezing when dark came. So just a suggestion, bring a wind breaker.
Cause we be playing more then three games.
